totalBarca : Stat of the Day: Almost 500 goals!

Pep can only decide on which players he wants out and which players he wants in. And sometimes what positions he wants to fill. It was up to Laporta to sell Eto'o for a good price and buy Zlatan at a cheap price. Looks at the transfers Rosell and Zubi have made. Masch, Adriano, Cesc, Sanchez and Afellay. They are all challenging for starting spots and all of them together only cost as much as Zlatan alone did.(Estimating Eto to be worth at least 30 mil)

totalBarca : Iniesta partly trains with the group

Good news. My favorite player in the team is back. Just curious though about how many people really have other Barca players other than Messi as their favorite. Can we have a poll about this??

Thats not good. With him and masch at the centre we can do the catenaccio while still playing total football up front. Hope is back soon. All three of our centre backs are important.

totalBarca : Pep and Rosell working for a better Barça

Uli hoeness the current president of Bayern is a former player. But the more suitable example would be Der Kaiser. Captain, Coach, Legend, President and Honorary president. Played sweeper which had evolved into the defensive mid by the time Pep played. Lot of Bayerns success is attributed to changes that Beckenbaur made. I definitely see a lot of similarities with our legend here.

totalBarca : Guardiola: "At times you play well and don't win"

Nobody criticizes Pep as a bad coach but people do question his tactics when we have a bad game. Thats only cause football would not be quite the same fun without discussions on tactics and game play. Remember that we can only find flaws in the game after the game is over and Pep would have taken a lot more from the game than any of us can dream of. Its just a little fun and it is between cules. So chill mate.

He was hired as a brand ambassador for Barca in India. Its a publicity stunt. He was an Arsenal fan in one of his movies. I know its a movie but it could easily have been Barca if he wanted it to be. No clue why he was hired as brand ambassador when Indian football legend Bhutia is a genuine fan.

Exactly. Since it is a home game, betting pep will go with a 3-4-3 for this match. Anyway would love to see a Puyol Masch partnership if we do play a 4 man defense. That would almost be a wall.

totalBarca : Capello enjoys watching Barca play

Porto. Villas Boas built his team to play like Barca. He is trying the same with Chelsea. So far it has not worked that well. It will take some time to even loosely imitate Barca. Ajax shares a lot of history with us. Also their academy is very similar to La Masia. I have not watched too many of their games but they should be similar.

Pique somehow never seemed to be particularly close to Messi even though they were of the same batch. Cesc seems to be a lot closer. Whats is obvious is he brings good people skills. Puyol not only leads the team but also keeps it together. Cesc does seem to be of a similar make.

totalBarca : Video: The Ambidextrous Pedro

You are thinking more barcelona type of centre forward. Am thinking more along the lines of chicarito. He plays on the defensive line. Most of what he does is beat the offside trap and score. Pedro does a great job on the wings too but if he had played for a lesser team he probably would have owned the centre forward position.

I always felt he would do great as a centre forward. Shoots with both legs, excellent positioning and he got this sudden burst of pace. Dont realy feel he is fast like robben or sanchez( but that maybe just because of the way we play) . Feel he is bit more like torres was, super acceleration. We probably will never see him as a centre forward but cant get the thought out.

Love Porto's football. Looks like they have taken a lot from us short passing, pressing and crowding around the ball. If Villas-Boas can do the same with Chelsea we can expect some great competition in the champions league. Nothing to fear but definitely good enjoyable football.

totalBarca : Maxwell and Alexis return to training, Pique out for three weeks

Pep has converted Masch into a centre back. No concerns there. Nor is his height a concern. Cannavaro was of the same height. But centre backs get better with experience. Even though Pique performs really well we see the best of him only when he is partnered with Puyol. So either Abidal or Masch partnering Puyol or Pique will cause no problems. But a partnership of Abidal and Masch is not acceptable. We need at least one established centre back. Secondly Puyol is getting older and this will probably be the right time to think of finding a replacement. I really cannot see Fontas replacing Puyol. Almost all the other defenders at La masia seem to be better. Barta, Motoya, Muniesa and Gomez look like real talents but will need time to take over. I understand your concern that we need a centre back who can distribute the ball effectively but there are a few centre backs of that type in the market. Hummels and Silva play defensive mid at times and David Luiz looks good too. Keita as the lone defensive mid does not look good either. We should sell him and Maxwell and use the money to buy a centre back.

totalBarca : What the Super Cup left behind for our rivals

Mourinho has generally taken charge of players who have not won many titles. They would do anything for him. In real most players cannot accept that they are inferior to any other team. They prefer to impose their style rather than counter the other team. They have already lasted longer under mourinho than I thought they would.

Well Messi is more hardworking, clinical and efficient. But if I had to pick on who to watch I would pick Ronaldinho 10 times out 10. He did things that I never expected. He was also one the few players who totally enjoyed playing football. Ever seen him without a smile?? If he was half as dedicated as Messi he may been something else. But if he was as hardworking as Messi than he may never have tried all those tricks on the pitch. No can deny Messi is really good and will go on to smash all records but no one can deny that for the few days Ronaldinho was at his best he was pure Magic.
