You need to update BB to iPad's one in order to unlock with the chance of losing GPS though. (read post again!). You can have great detailed tutorials at iClarified website.

Try to download FakeCarrier in Cydia. It has battery percentage as well and seems to be quite accurate as the ios4's official one.

Download tiny umbrella (google it). You can save your shsh using this wonderful tool. If you need to update to 4.1 you can use a custom firmware that has already been patched with PwnageTool (however you need to find trusted sources!). This will allow you to go to 4.1 while preserving baseband at 05.13.04 which then you can unlock using ultrasnow. If it is too complicated, wait for a few weeks until other tools or unlock are released.

Be very careful with them. Never give your bank account to anyone, certainly not to Nigeria. Once they get your bank account they will take all your money!!! You can report them if you are selling on ebay.

Baseband gets updated only when you update or restore on iTunes using official firmware. Currently for 3g and 3gs baseband 05.14.02 is not unlockable and for iPhone 4 baseband 2.10.04 is not unlockable. To unlock (only if you have other basebands other than what i mentioned to you), you just need to download Ultrasnow in Cydia (wifi connection is prefered to download it). Simply open Cydia, go to Manage, Sources, repo666ultrasn0w(if it aint there already, add it), ultrasnow, install. After that your iPhone will reboot, then test other sim cards other than official one. Pressing make my life easier will save your SHSH which will allow you to restore to other firmware version for which SHSH is saved. However you cannot revert baseband version even with SHSH saved. So it is only for jailbreak that "make my life easier" will be useful. Hope this helps.

baseband 05.14.02 is not unlockable at the moment. You will have to wait till 4.2 firmware is released(which is in a few weeks it seems) to see if Ultrasnow(the unlock) can be updated to support newer basebands. Sorry mate. However, you can jailbreak using either limera1n or greenpois0n (fastest and available for MAC and Windows) or use PwnageTool (longest and MAC only). Instructions can be found on iClarified website(google it).

I would not try that at all. Facetime seems to be working fine when you activate the iPhone with official sim card. If you don't care about unlock, just update to 4.1 official firmware on iTunes and jailbreak with either limera1n or Greenpois0n. I personally got iPhone 4 jailbroken with limera1n and Facetime working fine.

I am pretty sure most iPhone 4 are now at 4.1 with locked baseband at all stores. You can try to find a factory unlocked one or one that has the old baseband on ebay so that you can unlock it now. The unlock for the new baseband will seemingly be released when 4.2 is out which is in some 3 to 4 weeks now. You can't do anything to unlock the new baseband. So either wait till 4.2 and unlock is out or try to get old baseband or factory unlocked iPhone 4 over the net.

Oh I see. You mean if he has the 5.08 bootloader he simply updates to 4.1, jailbreak with Redsnow, use fuzzyband to revert baseband version, then use Ultrasnow to unlock?

You will need PwnageTool (available only for MAC) to create a custom 4.1 firmware. Then use that custom firmware to restore. Go to iclarified website for tutorials on this. Also as a personal advise, I wouldnt update to 4.x as it made my 3g very slow and much more slower with MultiTasking and other features. That's why ElPipo is calling 3.x firmware a Gem on iPhone 3G.

The 1st and 2nd store, I do not know why they said they can(might be a hardware unlock but it is very unplausible and risky - I will advise you not to try this at all anyway). The 3rd store checked your baseband to see if Ultrasnow(the unlock) can be applied, however it seems they didnt check properly as you stated your baseband is 05.14.02 which cannot be unlocked unfortunately. The 4th store know that your 3gs cannot be unlocked for now and also know that Ultrasnow will be updated to support newer basebands when 4.2 will be released. That's why they told you to come in 2 to 4 weeks. Anyway all stores will make you pay for Ultrasnow, which is available freely on Cydia(the jailbreak). So do not fall for these as well. Be patient and wait for 2 to 4 weeks to know more about the Ultrasnow update(which will be published on this blog itself). As for lime snow, no official news yet only rumours for now. Let's hope Geo does his magic again to surprise everyone with his unlock. You are not annoying at all. This blog was made to discuss, help, ask questions and answer them. Hope I've been able to help you.

It is a obviously a scam. Do not fall for those things. Your 3gs is not unlockable at the moment. Wait till 4.2 firmware is released next month to know if there will be an unlock.

You will need to wait for Ultrasnow update. (Found in Cydia). There is no ETA but when Apple releases the 4.2 firmware only then we will know if it can be unlocked or not.

Ok then it is normal that you do not have a cellular network signal. The thing is that you updated to official release which updated your baseband. Hence you cannot unlock your iPhone and when you used limera1n it hacktivated your iPhone(bypassed process of activating using AT&T sim card). So for now, you cannot use any other sim card other than AT&T as you updated to official firmware. You will need to wait until 4.2 is released to know if it can be unlocked. Sorry mate.
