Could be that Nintendo decided: "Hey, how bout we put something into the game that means absolutely nothing, but that fans will go crazy trying to figure out?" If so, props to them. It succeeded.

Now the monkeys were tattooed as such simply because they were of the forest, kind of like the Kokiri. And why would her having the Sheikah symbol mean that she's NOT a Sheikah?!? That's like saying Zelda isn't chosen by the goddesses because she has the Triforce of Wisdom!!!

well, zelda was trying to pose as male (doing pretty well at it too) and that may have been what the original Sheik had to do to... hide from the Dark Tribe maybe? After she defected? I dunno. I'm no Axle.
