Seems to me there are a few problems with an ordinance this broadly written - 1- there is no definition of what constitutes an "Emergency" - so if a mayor determines there are too many stray kittens loose in the city he can impose the restrictions outlined in this ordinance. 2 - there is no provision for compensation to citizens and businesses harmed by the misuse of this authority. 3 - In my opinion, and the opinion of the Constitution of he United States as I understand it, there ought be no "emergency" whose nature is such that it ought deprive law abiding citizens from being armed. In fact, if Katrina taught us anything, it is that a well-armed and determined citizenry is the best deterrent to looters and other types of civil unrest. Compare New Orleans to what happened in Mississippi (equally devastated by the storm, but no looting or pillaging - because it was made known that people were going to protect their property.) Both our state house here in NC as well as the "representative" from our congressional district sitting in Washington, are oblivious to the people they claim to represent. As inspiring as the tea parties and the folks on this site have been, this alone will not change Washington, or our state governments. We must change it from the inside - which means men and women who don't need a dictionary to understand words like honor, integrity, courage, and faithfulness need to run for office, and those who do not run need to support them! The litmus test you should be using is not POLICIES, but rather PRINCIPLES. None of us can with any certainty predict every issue that will arise during a term in office, but if I know a man's principles and I know they are steadfast in their values, then I can know how that man will vote on any issue. Stop worrying about what a politician says their platform is, we need to stop treating elections like beauty pageants - with the exception of Ms. California (kudos!) we EXPECT them to say whatever will garner them the most votes. This should not be the case with the leading of our nation.
