you have to go back through redsn0w and instead of checking 'install cydia' you check 'tether this time' (i believe that's what it says) do the dfu stuff and your good. It will only happen again if you have to reboot (cydia did that the first time I had it working) or if you restart your iPad.

You were right. Instead of putting it into DFU mode before I didn't follow the instructions on screen and did it the way it was described in the YouTube video at that time and it worked. Thanks for the help.

I know how to get it into DFU mode but it still doesn't do anything when connected redsn0w. I've loaded everything back in and still nothing... I've been unlocking and jailbraking since '07 and never had a problem like this.

its not working for me either. Every time I get to the screen to put it in the DFU mode and touch my power button it immediately turns on and says unexpected error. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

robtdale - thanks for the quick response but my question is how do I bypass the apple 'forced' update to do that? It will do it via recovery mode? (I have a mac btw).

I unlocked a used 3g (3.0) yesterday and (via redsn0w) I jailbroke it but cydia kept crashing so I created a 'fake' iphone account via itunes and it worked so I could use ultras0w and unlock it. I couldn't find anywhere to get my 2g iPhone backup onto my phone so I reset it with 'erase all content and settings' and it got stuck on the apple logo with the spinning wheel frozen on it. The only way I've seen anything different is if I get it in restore mode but it's asking me to upgrade to 3.1 via apple and the carrier unlock is BY FAR the most important thing for me. Can someone please explain how I can either upgrade to 3.1 with a 3g iphone and still unlock it or is there another way to complete the restore without upgrading? Thank you

I just got a used 3g iphone from a friend and used redsn0w to jailbreak and unlock it but when I synced it I ended up creating a fake user account for my itunes sync to get Cydia to work.. Anyway I didn't see any viable info as to how to back it up with my previous information so I went ahead and restored it. After the restore was supposedly finished it starting showing an apple sign with a spinning logo on it (which isn't spinning). The firmware is/was 3.0 and I didn't do the 3.1 update through itunes, though that was the only way I was able to see anything besides the logo. what can I do? My most important thing is to have it carrier unlocked and I'd prefer jailbreaking as well. I was reading someone's comment saying that they could upgrade to 3.1 and downgrade to 3.0 thus giving back the ability to jailbreak and unlock it. Thanks in advance.
