I could almost give you a thumbs up because what you say is a good idea. The problem is to fix the issue you need to fix society and its goes way deep into the heart of society. It goes down to the level of the individual family. It means having two parent families, well grounded in God's word raising children to live the same. Instead we have families that are selfish, parents that don't want to put effort into their children, assuming they even get married etc. To do as you say means fixing society at a level that society doesn't want.

There is so much to tear apart in his statement that I simply don't have the time. Its all predicated on a whole lot of false assumptions and projections of own beliefs. I too would love to see citations, which don't exist except for the armed forces saying it takes discipline to shoot in battle, but thats a big "Well duh".

Statistically you are correct as every population will eventually have a data point for just about any action. The point is not whether there is absolutely no danger posed by those who carry, the point is that its their right to protect themselves. Though the likelihood of an accident is small it may happen. The likelihood of a person threatening others, whether with firearms or not, is quite high.

One thing is for certain. If there were dorms allowing permit holders to have firearms, that would be the dorm I would want to live in whether I had a permit or not.

That is the key. When I have debated people of his/her nature regarding firearms one thing has stood out glaringly: They are irrationally fearful of firearms. I do not know if it is due to lack of knowledge, bad past experiences, etc but something is causing rational thought to be overridden by emotional reactions. Some try to come up with statistics to prove their point and will overlook common sense in the process. They will also defend undeniably bad statistics while calling other statistics that refute their claims as bad simply because they refute their claims. Gotta love it.

You do know there is a difference between being legally able to have a gun and having a concealed weapons permit don't you? That nutjob simply passed a NICS check he did not have a cwp which is the topic at hand.

Ah a well reasoned and factually supported opinion, not. People like you think that someone who will carry a gun in public is insane. That is arguably one of the craziest beliefs around as gun ownership has no relation to a persons sanity at all. I know a lot of people who carry and without fail they are some of the sanest people I know. A couple are really big guys with much fighting experience so they don't fear anyone but do understand that situations happen that can exceed even their skills. If you don't want a firearm, fine don't have one but don't use your irrational fear to tell those that do that they are crazy and shouldn't have a fiearm.

Thats correct. Additionally, the number of revoked permits is extremely small and most of them are because of what even the authorities say is a bad situation. For example in Florida they worded the law in such a way that a person can have his/her permit revoked if they violate a law of any kind if it involves a weapon, including driving through a no gun zone etc. Most revocations are due to people forgetting they have their weapon and they are stopped for a traffic violation in a school no gun zone etc.

Really,
Whos one foot closer?

a) The person that doesn't think about such things but doesn't buy fire insurance
b) Someone who thinks they might have a fire and buys insurance just in case. They buy the insurance and then forget about it unless its needed. People that I know that carry do the same. They are not mentally "one foot closer" to some imagined insanity just because they carry a firearm.

Not nearly as silly as you might think. As an experienced martial artist I can tell you that someone with a simple steak knife can kill a lot of people in a big hurry. Someone with a tire iron can get quite a few before being overpowered as well. Someone who mixes a few chemicals to come up with a toxic gas can easily toss a jar with this mixture in it into a room and then super glue the door shut and walk away. The ability to kill is nearly endless. We can't be naieve about it. A determined person will find a way and while firearms make it easier for some they will find a way regardless.
