Just think how prepared we were for disasters in our own world. Even though we saw the hurricane coming toward New Orleans, we did nothing to strengthen the levies. Sometimes you just get caught off-guard and have to be reactive since you weren't pro-active. And this emphasizes that type of situation.

Thanks so much, Felix! I don't know what my mental age is, but I do know I feel quite in tune with all internet friends in their 20's and 30's.

Sadly, I expect the media to lag far behind on this. No do I have much confidence in orthodox science or status-quo history.

The wrist bands or bracers that both Captain Barometer and Hyperspace wear were invented by Captain Barometer, and the 2nd generation of that tech was worn by his nephew and original sidekick, Hyperspace.

Hi, Dustin! Titanium Tom is more like the Hulk but with an extra green bile effect. Gauge's secondary power (to pick the weak point in any opponent or structure) goes great with a gun or karate chop. As far as the Ancient Astronaut Hypothesis goes, I'm on the fence. Much has been written about the Anunnaki and their parallels to the Nephilum, and about their possible creation of modern man through genetic wizardry. I can't say I fully subscribe to it, yet I can also say I'm sympathetic to the idea. Ancient history fascinates me.

The big alien was created for this scene, but I like him. He's named Enkidu, after Gilgamesh's adventuring partner in the "Epic of Gilgamesh." It's also a play on the Anunnaki, who by some accounts were alien overlords. Thus, it makes sense that Enkidu is not a new type of Gray, but a Anunnaki hybrid. (Yes, this the weird type of stuff that rolls around my brain all day!)

Well, yes. In America, we wait for disasters to happen before we do anything about it. We knew the levies weren't up to handling a big storm, but we did nothing to fix the situation. About a year before 911, I remember the episode of "The Lone Gunmen" where the plot was to fly an airplane into the Empire State Building. I also remember a Tom Clancy novel that told of an airplane being used as a bomb to wipe out congress. My point is, these ideas where out there in popular culture, and no one did anything about them.

Johnny Saturn : He spent $300 to make this...

I understand the time issue. I'd think fondly of how cool a Johnny Saturn motion comic would be to shop around for a movie deal, but there just isn't the extra time in schedule. I'd like to get back to doing paintings, too, but I'm similarly frustrated by the same.

You do short films? Cool! I wan't to do a Johnny Saturn motion comic. I've got the skills to do it, but I'm not sure when my schedule would open up for it.

I can't agree with your dismissal of this based on what it did or didn't cost. No matter what, someone with limited capital and the help of a bunch of cohorts who wanted to make a name for themselves but their hearts into making a hell of a short. It's the coolest thing of its sort that I've seen since the short film that inspired Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. When I do freelance work, I don't charge for my equipment every time I quote an offer. So, if they already owned some computers and software, I'm not bothered.

No comment on whether Staff of Life shows up. It would be great for the good guys if she did, because she arguably the most powerful superhero in Spire City. I can imagine a scenario where they fast-track some foreign superheroes for American citizenship. I can also imaging Titanium Tom bringing in a bunch of chronies from back east.

Close. Pummel Horse is djinn, and Quadrophonic was a scientist who had an experiment go bad, a' la "The Fly." We always joked that his dating life really picked up after he got turned into a giant four-armed winged frog.

Their defenses were minimal, unfortanately. They were like all the public govt. buildings before 911, and it took an unprecedented disaster to make them add security, metal detectors, car-blocking cement pylons, etc. I don't think the builders even considered the possibility of a direct attack on a superhero meeting hall. As you can imagine, this ends their day of innocence. That's assuming, of course, that enough squad members survive to even have a Squadron Premiere anymore.

Brilliant review of the situation, Nick. We're in complete agreement. It reminds me of the Old West, were the early settlers were often trouble to their own communities, but gold when it came to the frontier living and fighting.

We're pretty much on the same page, Joel, about JrJr. I've always dug his work, and his Daredevil run was incredibly awesome! On Spider-Man, though, he drew Spidey skinnier and skinnier as issues went on, and his feet bigger and bigger, and I was never comfortable with that. I could appreciate that Spider-Man would be an endomorph, ie bony with lean muscle, but this exaggeration seemed a bit much. I've seen some Spider-Man covers where the artist draws him to like childlike and juvenile, like he was 15 again, and that seems odd to me too.

That would be awesome if they reactivated the Clump! But, alas...:) Barometer has a back story, but as a character he's never really had his chance to shine in the comic.

I know it's a shock. Strangely, a guy like TT thrives in battle. Plus, in the midst of violence, there's less time for him practice his almost non-existent social skills and bias's. I guess I sympathize with all sorts of "broken" people (I guess that would evident by the weight I give villains in the story). Captain Barometer is not a nice man, either, but when I write him I can see from his perspective a bit.
