/Film : Disney's American Movie Poster For Hayao Miyazaki's Ponyo

I would completely agree with Samir_J, Lasseter and Pixar have am excellent relationship with Miyazaki and do amazing dubs. It's not like watching the pic of a foreign language film where the actors voices and tones are connected to the performers – these are animated characters after all who are dubbed from other actors voices. Each to their own, but I'd rather have a great dub by top draw English speaking actors and concentrate on watching the film than reading subtitles in this case. Besides, I barely consider Miyazaki work as foreign film because animated film is so universal.

Personally I think they are both just ripping off The Day The Earth Stood Still circa 1951 and that despite being asexual Gort has a bigger penis than either of them.

/Film : Wolverine Review

I'm surprised you found so little to criticise in the action sequences, the close range fights were poorly conceived and somewhat confused while the bigger effects driven moments out in the open suffered from quite poor effects. Like the film there's a lack of heart in your review and that's understandable, the film was severely underwhelming and just a melting pot of ideas with little or no real substance. I go into more detail in <a href"http://darkhabits.blogspot.com/2009/04/film-review-x-men-origins-wolverine.html">my own review, swing by and check it out. I couldn't bring myself to let Hood off the hook as much as you have.

/Film : The Ugly Truth Movie Trailer #2

Isn't there another trailer somewhere that's a lot better than this one? The Brittney or whoever song playing over and cuts are obviously targeting the female audience with the movie's chick flick appeal. That's being said there did seem to be a lot of cheap slapstick comedy going on that just doesn't sit well. Looks more like a Matthew McConaughey/Kate Hudson movie.

/Film : Discussion: Has Lost Jumped The Smoke Monster?

I must say I'm somewhat mystified by this post Peter, this was probably the strongest episode of the season and I think it arguable has a place among Lost greatest ever episodes. Worth a read are Alan Sepinwall and Todd Vanderwhatsit over at The House Next Door for their views. There will always be hardcore detractors who moan about weird stuff in Lost, but to be honest they are all the same people who thought Heroes was the greatest thing ever and jumped ship during season three only to come running back after that proved to be a gross miscalculation.

Amazing, what on earth were they thinking in the first place? Why would anyone who saw the film and then buy the dvd want a different translation? I hope they change the font quality to the style used theatrically because that large fuzzy font I saw on those screen grabs were horrible. Magnet Releasing come out of this looking very silly indeed and no doubt it will hurt its future distribution opportunities somewhat.

/Film : Seth Rogen Updates on Michel Gondry's Style for Green Hornet

You say that like's he's otherwise been making bad movies. Science of Sleep and Be Kind Rewind might not be great (indeed, one might be kinda flawed) but they were both decent films that showed the kind of creative filmmaking we expect from Gondry. I rarely walk out of a film with the kind of imaginative work Gondry displays and feel like I haven't seen something interesting in one way or another. This isn't an argument for mediocre storytelling, I just don't think when a director's main body of feature work includes Human Nature, Eternal Sunshine, Bloc Party, Science of Sleep and Be Kind Rewind that you can imply he hasn't made enough good films to question the decisions of a guy who has written two films and another who's acting range, whilst entertaining, is so far very limited. Besides, I don't think he was being obtrusive at all. Gondry's just a very passionate filmmaker and one who obviously doesn't want to be pigeonholed.

/Film : Director's Cut of Watchmen Planned For Theatrical Release in July

Yeah, but you're talking about a R-rated $120 million investment being released in the middle of a global economic downturn to a fickle audience. This thing has got to play so many times in 5,000-odd theatres it's rolling out in that every second counts. It's already about 14 mins longer than Dark Knight. I think the studio has got to make it as accessible as it can. I don't think you can make a straight up comparison between a mainstream movie-going audience and a comic book audience in terms of 'virgin audiences' or 'built in fan base' primed for the Black Freighter. That's two very different demographics. I don't think its that cynical or very surprising really. In fact I'm just stoked that there will be even more Watchmen material to see after the main event.
