Simple solution…everyone moves up and the entry level jobs are the ones that open…unless the unemployed bring a superior skill set.
An elegant and simple solution: Patriotic retirement: There's about 40 million people over the age of 50 in the work force; pay them $1 million apiece severance with the following stipulations: 1) They leave their jobs. - Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed. 2) They buy NEW American cars. - Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed. 3) They either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed. They could call this instant reli! ef progr am the "Fifties Asset Relief Tender"...... or F.A.R.T.

I didn’t say a fair tax wouldn’t work. I said a flat tax wouldn’t work…at least not at the rates the American public would want it to in order to sustain the government as it cost under either George Bush or Ronald Reagan. Let’s not even go to the price of a Bill Clinton government. The Obama government (the Oministration) will not be satiated under any tax plan, least of all a flat tax. Es, a flat tax would work but your tax rate would be much higher, by at least twice, than it currently is. Even Bortz will tell you the “rich” pay somewhere in the neighborhood of 80 percent (plus?) of the tax base, the middle class picks up almost the remainder.

How about no pissing contests. We’re supposed to be on the same side and in-fighting is the last thing this movement needs.
I won’t get into a pissing contest with you because you have a chip on your shoulder. That’s not what this forum is all about. Sorry you can’t spell because of dyslexia. Most other do not have that excuse. And your own arrogance is showing…toward me in that you think you have me pigeon-holed by virtue of reading a few messages. Shame on you.
My apologies. You are, of course, correct. My initial answer was a merely a glib response and not as correct as it should have been. But your point was that we have rewritten the Constitution when we amended it. We haven’t. We just defined another piece of the complex equation.
Where shall we start…with women’s right to vote (19), abolishment of slavery (13), presidential succession (25)? How about reading them and you tell me which ones did not close a loophole or fix a problem. No fair using the 28th, Prohibition. That was tried, found distasteful, and repealed.
Good read and good on you for reading it. More of the folks on this post should do so. If you read my reasoning, you will see that I pointed out that a flat tax won’t work the way the pundits would like it to, not that it won’t work at all. It would work just fine if you don’t mind doubling your current tax rate. I would mind it very much. Check out those countries that use a flat tax system and you will see their tax rate is triple or quadruple that of the average US citizen. That is not the direction we should endeavor to go.
2. Might be a good thing...but where is all that gold the US used to own? In the hands of private citizens and corporations. Who will re-collect it all? How will we limit the government by returning to the gold standard? That means ALL money spent and owned by the government MUST be backed by gold or silver. That takes a whole lot of precsious metals off the market and out of the hands of industry who used it for all sorts of manufacturing such as your computers...ready to give them up along with a myriad other modern conveniences? Reaqdy to return to the 19th century?

-the tax code has been anything but a mechanism for merely getting the federal government operating revenues, since the first tax law was enacted to raise for funds for the spanish-american war. instead, it is a means for social engineering , income redistribution, spurring business investment, encouraging increased employee hiring, and, and, ...congress would never keep there little lobbyist-influenced fingers off a completely revised tax code. and, --even at 17%, low income earners would be hurt by having to pay taxes since now, they probably don't pay anything. WHAT ABOUT THE POOR PEOPLE!!! You should already know that your 'effective tax rate' (I'm guessing no more than 13%) is way less than that 17%, which means you might end up with an even larger tax increase than already has planned for you. there goes the flat-taxer's percentage and there goes the flat-tax.

1. flat-tax won't work: to generate the same (or greater) gross tax revenues, estimated rates used by flat tax proponents, rates have to be at least 17%, with some estimates as high as 23%. Any propsed rates in that range are based on presumptions there would be NO deductions or income adjustments as with the current tax code and especially that all or nearly all potential taxpayers would exercise their constitutional right to active participation in the tax system, in contrast to the 40 million or so who only file tax forms to receive EIC or other refundable credits. Here are two BIG problems (there are more) in the very next post...

We have not "screwed up" the constitution. We have allowed our electred politicians to trod upon it. That is where we must concentrate our efforts; by removing those politicians and electing Americans who actg out of common sense and patriotism, not greed and desire for power. However, in the case of the 17th Amendment, I agree that needs to be fixed, the loophole closed.

Yes kids, we can amend the Constitution. But that does not mean we should just because we are dissatisfied with the way it is being trodden upon by the current adminstration. Yes, the Founding Fathers were brilliant and yes the Constitution has been amended twenty-seven times...but ONLY twenty-seven times in the country's 233 year history. That's just about an average of ONCE every TEN years (really once every 8.629 years)...not ten times in a single year, although the first ten Amendments were added in a single year, 1791. Since then, only 17 Amendments have been added with one Amenedment being later appealed. So, actually, we have averaged one Amendment every thirteen years! It is a thing not to be done lightly and certainly not with malice and lack of forethought.

You only have the power because it was given to you by the United State Constitution. We don't need to reinvent the wheel, no matter how much fun it is. We need to adhere to the principles we already have in place, not reinvent a whole new set. If you all truly knew what you were talking about, you would eventually come up witha like document. However, no matter what it seems like to our pampered lifes, we do not live in the same uncertain times our founding fathers did. They knew what they were talking about.

You cannot supplant the Electoral College with a popular vote. That leads to gerrymandering, vote scam, etc...and is still ot a practicable idea without opportunity for fraud. Remember we are a Republic, not a Democracy. there are reasons the founding fathers set us up with an electoral college and it does not lie completely wiht a lcakc of fast communication and distance of the constituancy.

PART 2 This elegant document gives us the path on which we must travel. All we need to do is dedicate ourselves to following it, upholding it, honoring it, to the highest degree possible. That is exactly why we are hainvg these discussions...because the current andminstration, and in part the former adminstration, failed to see that very simple idea, failed to understand that very simple concept. Our founding fathers wrote each and every line exactly as they did not by mistake, but out of the love for this nation and out of the promise for the potential of greatness and fairness such that even they did not dare to imagine. Our founding principle needs to be, must be!, to uphold that virtue and adhere to the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights and to hold our government, of the people, by the people, for the people strictlyt o those tenants.
