Big Hollywood : No Love 'Lost'

Weird family traditions are the absolute best! That's what makes our families uniquely our own. If Hollywood could just figure out some of those simplistic notions, just think what wonderful movies they could make.

Big Hollywood : Elayne Boosler 'Unfriended' Me on Facebook for Being Conservative

"I think it’s because they are so far removed from military culture that when they are challenged with facts by someone in the military it confuses their world view." Outstanding summation of the situation. So many people have NO connection to the military whatsoever, and while they contort themselves to say they support the troops, their evident disdain shows that they, in fact, do not. The question that makes their heads explode is, "Why are you so quick to believe the worst about the military?"

Big Hollywood : 'Lemur-Cons' (A Reel in G Sharp): The Bible of Unspeakable Truths by Greg Gutfeld

Rep. McCotter rocks this review! Who would have imagined a congressman with a Dennis Miller-like wit and William F. Buckley-level vocabulary (I learned three new words just reading this review!)? I've seen him play the guitar on YouTube; discuss GOP principles on National Review with Peter Robinson; and now review Greg Gutman's book on Big Hollywood--I'm impressed!

Big Hollywood : Roman Polanski Supporter: Patrick Goldstein

So Polanski is Jean ValJean in this analogy? Seriously? ValJean's acknowledges and recognizes that his soul belongs to God and that his actions in this life matter. His willingness to sacrifice his freedom and his life make him one of the most noble characters in literature. Yeah, Polanski is just like that! Goldstein refers to them both as ex-cons trying to get on with their lives. How can Polanski be an ex-con when, as yet, he hasn't been a con? Absolutely sickening!

"Don’t get me wrong, we are proud being of Italian descent and have close ties to our cultural heritage, but we are Americans first and foremost. Period." I couldn't agree more. My great-grandparents came here legally from Italy and raised their children to be Americans. That's why they came here. They wanted their children to speak English because that's what Americans do. But our family has always been proud to be Italian. Today, we seem to have a curious notion that you can't be both a patriotic American and someone who is proud of their heritage. During World War II, the government came into my grandparents' home as well as their neighbors and removed the innards of their short-wave radios. We were at war with Italy, and the government was taking no chances that Italian-Americans could aid the enemy. Some Italian-Americans were interred during the war too, but you don't hear much about these things today. My family and other Italian-Americans families we grew up with were pragmatic about these things. These early generations never portrayed themselves as victims. I honestly believe that they think that doing so would be un-American.

Big Hollywood : Why Hollywood Will Lose the Culture War

I couldn't agree more. My kids are college students and they and their friends are pretty firm in their views, and they can smell a lie when they hear or read it. The teenagers today haven't grown up with the idea that the media are telling them the truth, and they have many sources to decide for themselves what they believe. The future of this country is in their hands, and from what I've seen, I feel pretty good about that. Our generation, on the other hand, has screwed things up 8 ways from Sunday!

Big Hollywood : Hollywood Stand Up Guy of the Month: Patrick Warburton Criticizes 'Family Guy'

Batmanual was great. And the Moth--what a sidekick! We quote "Crazy talk, crazy talk! Change the subject!" often in our house. Considering it wasn't on for very long, The Tick made a lasting impression on us--every week was laugh out loud funny.

The Tick was an amazing show. My favorite line--someone says to him, "No offense intended." His cheerful reply, "None comprehended!" And his Puddy character always made me laugh. I think the show he is in now doesn't do justice to his talents. Glad to hear that he actually is a real human being too.

Big Hollywood : When Did the Concept of Celebrity Jump the Shark?

Sorry about the double post--it didn't register my Intense Debate login the first time. Great post--couldn't agree more. I thumb through magazines in doctors' offices and think, "Who are these people?" And I couldn't watch the entire "We are the World" redux--it was that bad. Not to mention that it is a redux--we can't even debut a new song for the occasion. So we have a bunch of celebrity wannabes, never-weres, and wanna-be-agains trotting out a re-tread, and we're supposed to swoon over it. Ugh! Honestly, I blame the digital age. When technology improved so that hundreds of channels became available, we then had to fill hundreds of channels 24/7. The concept of celebrity changed with that--now it's anyone who appears anywhere--talent not required. Maybe there was a point to having just a few channels that went off the air each night to the Star-Spangled Banner.
