So it's down the street from the familia center? or in that same sort of business area? We went to the Bauhaus just outside of Mannheim, near Poco. It was really nice inside, not like the scummy one we have in Heidelberg! We get our car in just over a week! Squee!
Clash and Contradiction : March 3 - The Rhythm of Spring

Hey, we're far from perfect. We have this but sometimes it gets a little messed up, for example it's 6am here and my son is awake far too early!

If your camera is on Av then you just need to get really close to what you're taking a photo of, My camera lens was maybe just over a couple of inches away from these using a Nikkor 18-55mm (the D3000 kit lens) zoomed in as far as it would go... the closer you are to your subject the more depth of field you have, so the background is easier to blur. You want to get close to your subject and play around with the aperture settings. You can do this exercise to help: find some good lighting and get in close to your subject, start out at the lowest aperture, take a photo at each setting, moving up to the highest aperture, but keep everything else the same. Look at the photos you've taken and make a note of which one has more of the effect you're after. That's the one which has the settings you'll want to use, you should be able to check the settings for each photograph in camera after you've taken the photo. What kind of camera are you using? It's easier to do this with an SLR and a lens that has a longer focal length, the longer focal length means that you can get more of the subject in the frame but still get the blurred effect. It is possible to do with a compact camera but you have to get in much closer (and with the macro setting usually). Hope that helps, let me know how it turns out!
I think that's usually the way with small children, I know that's how it is for mikey and I. The meal and naptimes are the axis around which the rest of our day revolves. I love dinner time, Mikey usually "helps" which is when I can put him to work emptying the dishwasher (or at least the safe items in there) or stirring things. It's lots of fun. If my husband takes him while I cook then it's also nice and relaxing for me.
Me too, I used to try and be "spontaneous" but I've honestly found that it was too chaotic. It's far easier to be spontaneous within the realms of some kind of routine, it's much nicer for children too I think it helps them feel more secure.
No, it's not boring! I think it's totally natural, if we didn't have these little routines then our lives would sink into utter chaos! haha. and I really don't like it when military spouses complain that a civilian is upset that her husband will be gone for a weekend. It sucks no matter how long the time is, no matter what situation you're in! Sorry, random rant there, ha!
The Lady Who Lunches Blog : The Boy on the Bus

It totally is a cultural thing, I remember riding the train to London alone to go shopping alone at around 14 years old... a 3 hour journey from my parents house. My mum has similar memories of going to London alone at around age 11! I think if we lived in England or any other part of Europe when my son was older I'd probably let him do the same, but in the States? Not so much. I'm not sure why exactly.

I remember catching the regular bus to school, the normal commuters always hated traveling with the school kids and there were creepy bus drivers. I had to pay to get the bus because my school was in a different county and an hour away from my house! A lot of kids in the UK take the train to school too, here in Germany I am always seeing school children climbing off the Strassenbahn (tram) and walking home with their huge backpacks full of books. Not sure I ever read the paper on the bus though, maybe a book or something.

Well we do sort of have the same small hands. I keep cutting my nails off, they get in the way now when they're too long. I need to cut them again actually as they're long on one hand and not the other which is silly. Yum to real coffee. I hope you're not drinking instant at uni, go to john lewis and buy a cafetiere/french press. You know, the kind with the plunger. Then you only have to boil a kettle the same as with instant.
that's what i meant about it actually being huge inside! We have one of those enormous toddler car seats and there's more room in the mini for it than in our BMW! We're getting the mini clubman though, it's like 10 inches longer than a regular mini. Oh and to your previous comment, you're so right... I LOVE the turquoise bag! Still out of my price range though, gah!
You know, that does sound about right for how I'm feeling. I tend to get that way in the fall too, but I always put that down to the low light levels.
