I don't think it's unnecessary. Sure, they could just donate and shut up about it, but this kind of viral craze does one thing: it raises awareness! I didn't even know what ALS was, until Bill Gates himself dumped a bucket of ice-water over his head and told me about it. Sure, not everybody who does this "challenge" actually donates, but the fact that it's now talked about virtually everywhere, this level of awareness gives ALS sufferers hope. Hope for a better future. (man, that was sappy, but you know it's true)

Well then, I appreciate your honesty, it's nice to hear that you can look past your preconceptions when it comes to this video. Though I don't really think you can call people "egotistical" when giving opinions or analyzing the show. Every review, opinion (analysis, whatever you want to call it) is inherently biased, you can't really give a 100% objective opinion on something. Quite a few analysis people exaggerate their feelings about the show, mostly to entertain the viewers. For example, If someone rails against a certain episode, they're basically just explaining why they didn't like the episode in an amplified way. In the end it's just a cartoon, but that doesn't come across when you see a video with an intense tone, where someone explains in great detail why "this scene doesn't work" or something. I can certainly see why some people are ticked off by that. For me, it shows that persons passion about the show. I have my own opinions about the episodes, but I personally like to see why certain people feel a certain way. That's why I can Iike and respect (e.g.) an analysis by Digibrony titled "This Episode sucks ass" as much as a video by someone else about the same Episode, declaring "This is the best Episode ever". I hope what I wrote made at least some sense, it's late where I live, and english isn't my first language.

First of all let me say I can see where you're coming from. You obviously struck a cord, seeing how many thumbs up your comment got. But how? How does this video even rudimentarily merit an "analysis community circlejerk" kind of comment, like you just wrote (or copied and pasted)? This is a collaboration between many people (not just analysts), who all love and respect John de Lancie. With this project they wanted to say "thanks for being awesome, and sorry for what happened regarding the BronyDoc piracy issue". This video doesn't even contain any kind of analysis at all. So please tell me, how does this video trigger such a negative, disdainful response from you? Are you that angry at the "analysis community"?
