Anyhoo - I didn't hear this segment this AM since I went to work so early, but I'm not sure what I think. I belong to a bible church that takes a lot litterally, but for myself I wonder sometimes if we aren't simply guaranteed the core message and rest is just symbolism that CAN change with the time. For years its the only way I can reconcile the plethroa of translations. If one were to be a literalist in the truest sense, one would have to learn Hebrew and Greek, and then memorize the oral teachings. Otherwise we have to accept some degree of Holy guidance or choose not to believe. My take anyway. I too am an Annaplois grad. I personally had a great experience and served with wonderful people. The officer and enlisted ranks are full of traditional-minded Americans of all races and even a few other nationalities serving to become citizens. The problem as I saw it came predominately from the O-6 ranks. And not in demeaner or what they SAID they believed. It was in some of their actions, and the constant effort to teach us to check the box to get ahead as a priority to doing things right. That breeds a mentality that I couldn't put up with. Career progression becomes the pinnacle. That little oath is just another block they check. To some the whole concept of the Constitution becomes arbitrary. But I want to stress, even though outnumbered 2-1, there ARE some brilliant leaders and solid officers who DEFFINATELY are sympathetic to what we are doing. They just aren't the norm past the O-5 rank. And I have seen nothing in the Army to make me think those impressions I received in the Navy are inaccurate. Just one man's inferences based on his experience. We won't change the minds of leadership in the various beaurocratic levels of ANY of those organizations. They are thinking with a political bent to get where they are and thus are blind to the bedrock principles that underly WHY they do it. SOME of them have long since forgotten that their first priority is to the Constitution. I can think of 2 men I know that should have been 4 star Generals but were never allowed past the rank of Colonel. Politics. As an african american shipmate once told me - "you have to play games. Everybody plays games and your full of $#!^ if you don't think so." Well, I didn't, and he was as good as his word on believing from then on that I WAS indeed full of it. I know several Colonels and Navy Captains who preach the same. Luckily, there are many more serving who are probably already a part of this movement. I know a local girl who belongs to a libertarian/conservative family. This is a family that grows a garden and feeds their neighbors. This is good because the economy here has been depressed for some time. This girl wants to join Americorp for a few years and has looked into it. She wants to do it with an aspect of service - but has a good head on her shoulders. I also heard it on the radio - not even sure which show - on my way into work in the AM. So I asked her - she said "not yet" and "I hope they don't - I'd join the army instead." So... whatever that's worth.
