"Clarinets in rock music" reminds me of this video by the bass clarinet quartet Edmund Welles. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwFCz4COtPo

You're not adding nearly as much pollution with electric cars. When you generate power to move your car in the engine, it's not as efficient as taking one 10000th (or whatever) of the power that the utility company is generating.

My family is active in Rainbow, a fraternal service organization for teenaged girls, which is associated with Freemasonry. It teaches leadership as well, but as time goes on, there are fewer and fewer members to lead. Service organizations just aren't as fashionable as they were in our parents' time. :-(

When I recently had to perform some mandatory volunteer service, I tried to convince them that volunteering at the library to do PG proofreading was a valid alternative to working at the the local Salvation Army. Unfortunately, they weren't flexible enough to accept that as an option. At least at that SA, I got to install Linux on some donated computers. :-)

I'm a member of the Masons and Eastern Star: there are various charities that we give to. On a more personal level, rather than donate money, I donate my time and knowledge to open projects like Project Gutenberg Distributed Proofreaders, which puts public domain books online for free, Librivox, which creates public domain audiobooks from public domain books, and Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia. At WP I create articles, help maintain existing articles, and volunteer as an administrator to maintain the integrity of the project.
