Marion, I just wanted to say thank you for speaking up on my behalf. I knew using the media to try to get the housing funds back would put me under some scrutiny but I didn't see a choice there were too many families effected by this to just sit idly by and let it happen. So once again I really appreciate that you did not make assumptions about me or my lifestyle choices based upon the fact that I am poor. I hope you have a great weekend. Sarah M

I would like to start by saying I am the Sarah from the interview. I have one child with a father who does pay child support and is involved in his sons life. I am a full time student at BSU striving to obtain my degree in Social Work. I am getting my act together by going to school. If you must know I have some mental health issues that prevent me from maintaining a job while going to school and raising my son. Just because someone looks healthy does not always mean they have the same abilities as everyone else. I am not for handouts I am for a hand up, people making the effort to better themselves are using the welfare system how it was intended to be used. I am held accountable for the repayment of my student loans and if it is determined that I am abusing the system I would be held accountable for repayment of all the funds I have used. Most people do not enjoy living on welfare it is not fun in fact it really sucks but sometimes it is what one has to do to survive. More people are seeking assistance now then ever because of the economy if we destroyed all avenues of help do you know how many children would go without proper food, clothing, shelter, and medical care? The situation that you seem to be missing is that 95 people who were depending on their rent being paid have been told they have less than 30 days to come up with the full amount of their rent have little to no income to rely on. For many people in that situation it is a crisis. I chose to do the interview in hopes that it would help restore the funds needed to pay the rent for the 95 people who were stressed and struggling to figure out what they were going to do or where they were going to go as of August 1st. As for my personal situation I live on my child support and student loans, I do not get my nails done they just grow that way and I painted them for the 4th of July. You have assumed many things about not only myself but many other people and situations Welfare has not put this country in debt, irresponsible spending and poor management of where funds are going have put The US in debt. Not to mention the war in Iraq, which does not come cheap. No one program can be blamed for this country's debt.
