With the gentrification of young, out-of-state hipsters displacing long-time Latinos going on in Lafayette, 35 years IS historic.

If the brewpub itself doesn't increase revenue for the city, the DUI dragnet setup to catch drunk drives leaving the establishmen just off the parking lot certainly will. When you consider it in that light, DUI's generate a lot more revenue that marijuana users. Perhaps the URA took that into consideration?

By their charter, public institutions of higher learning from their inception were/are to educate the masses by making education available to the greatest number of people possible, not to increase tuition so high that only the wealthy can afford the tuition and build $7,000,000.00 scoreboards for football stadiums for the pleasure of those who don't go to school there. That is what happens when you put a novice with no experience or education to run a major research institution in charge. C.U. is quickly emerging as a joke in the PAC12.

LOL, you don't see the correlation between corporate lobbying, SuperPACS unlimited campaign contributions and legislation? Heh! Here's a hint, they've successfully lobbied to have immigration law tweaked in their favor. The H-1A/B visa laws that give them the opportunity to hire cheap labor over American citizens is the result, thereby artificially manipulating a (cough) "free" market.

"corporate fascism is an oxymoron" In your opinion, which I contend is not correct. The current unemployment rate for engineers in general is statistically between 3% and 6%, which is well below the national average for all occupations, but is still a large number. It is not the responsibility, nor should be the role of the federal government to subsidize corporations by manipulating our market economy by granting visa that hurts Americans. If a corporation needs more qualified engineers, train them. They are free to move their entities overseas in search of engineers, but need to be prepared to pay excise taxes to import their goods back into America. When corporations can influence the federal government to impose congressionally opaque trade agreements (lack oversight) like NAFTA that can potentially hurt our society that is a problem and an example of corporate fascism. How many Americans have been hurt by our trade agreements with China who doesn't share our same value system in regards to labor and environmental laws? (Rhetorical). Yet corporations can do so with relative ease. As for the grammar correction, thanks. BTW, it's incorrect to start a sentence with a conjunction like "And".

I have an issue with your choice of verb, "sneaks", implying they did something wrong. Seeking a better life is never "wrong", particularly when there are no victims. If you were to chose a different verb, say... "So the solution is to allow anybody who comes into the country to stay?" I can honestly say "yes" with a caveat, so long as they constructively contribute and are not a burden to society, and abide by natural law. Keep in mind that excludes many natural born citizens and a plethora of American business, particularly business that are "too big to fail" which can become a huge burden to society as we're finding out. In all sincerity, have you ever studied ethics or any philosophy? There are very few, if any, "yes/no" questions.

the 1790 Alien Naturalization Law excludes no humans. Since you're having such a hard time with that, why not pick a random period approximately 100 years later, say, 1890? More inclusive or less so than today would you say?

That is correct. Additional revenue is and should be reinvested in infrastructure. C.U., incidentally, should be operating in the same manner. Aside from wanting to keep tuition costs (subjectively) reasonable so I can afford to send my children there if they so choose, I could care less. If anything, I would like to see a legislative effort (i.e. Bill) that limits increases in tuition to the rate of inflation. This 15.6% increase this year, 9% increase last year is just reckless and an abuse of power. Cut spending like the rest of us must.

I support allowing aliens, documented or otherwise, to stay in the country with no fear of deportation, so long as they abide by our legal doctrine exclusive of our convoluted, misguided and racist immigration policies which are highly subjective to begin with and need to be rewritten based upon natural law, not bias and/or corporate fascism. Our laws need to be formulated to ONLY serve the purpose of those who have 23 chromosomal pairs of DNA molecules (i.e., homo sapien). I do NOT believe that corporations are people. I believe people are corporations, but it is a one way avenue - i.e., not symbiotic.

Oh great, the Westwood College alumni is attempting to educate. What constitutes "illegal", while written into law, is premised upon subjective conjecture. That can and should be remedied. H-1 visa candidates can gain access because of our evolving state of corporate fascism where a corporation can influence legislature more than an actual citizen (see Citizens United), convincing them they "need" the worker when the empirical evidence suggests they really don't. they simply don't want to pay to train an American, so Indians (Chinese, Pakistanis, etc), who are potentially enemies of the state and can invoke irreparable harm are given the key to the front door. Meanwhile, a dishwasher from Juarez must return to a life of misery and certain death because Larry Ellison wants a Java programmer that works for the rate of an American born dishwasher...? Give me a frigg'n break. You're race to the bottom, while effective, is strangling us. Next you're going to tell me that corporations really do have 23 pairs of chromosomal molecules.

See previous post, but your question doesn't warrant a yes or no answer. The "solution" is to fix the immigration law so "sneaking" into the country isn't an issue. Start by eliminating federally subsidized worker visas that artificially lower labor costs. If you can't find qualified citizens to fill the role, train them. It's not that hard if educational costs are kept in check. Hell, do it with corporate resources instead of passing the burden to taxpayers who subsidize H-1 visas. As for caring if someone sees me as I slippery weasel of a politician, why would should I? I'm a constituent.
