Daily Camera.com: : Police: Boulder High Principal Kevin Braney arrested in domestic violence case - Boulder Daily Camer

I am against domestic violence of any sort, including spanking one's children, and I just don't see it here. It sounds like, at most, Kevin Braney lost his temper and may have thrown a lamp, which can happen in the best of marriages, let alone when a couple is divorcing. Mr. Braney has enormous responsibilities as BHS principal and probably come home exhausted everyday and yet he's also raising a family. After seeing the Camera's alarming headline, I read the article and it sounds like much ado about nothing. Thanks to the Camera and Mrs. Braney, Kevin Braney's reputation may be irreversibly damaged in Boulder and the rest of the country. Boulder County cannot afford to lose an outstanding educator like Kevin Braney. Shame on the Daily Camera for it's over-the-top headline that is not backed up by the "facts" in the article. It's all allegations. Too bad Mr. Braney can't sue the Camera for defamation.

Daily Camera.com: : Lloyd Rochester, Stephanie Rochester\'s ex-husband, testifies in hearing - Boulder Daily Camera

Thank you for posting that link. That poor, poor baby. How it must have suffered during THREE murder attempts. Just the fact that she did it that many times and from what I read of her testimony, she couldn't have been legally insane. No reasonable juror would have concluded that she didn't know during at least one of these attempts, probably all three, that what she was doing was wrong. Isn't that all that is needed? Oh, this case has been eating at me since the decision first came down. I don't like seeing murderers getting away with their crime and, even if she spends 20 years in the state hospital (which I bet she won't because I believe that she'll have them conned within a few years at the most that she's fine) it doesn't matter. She was found NOT GUILTY by our justice system. A tragedy all the way around.

Thanks 123 ... I would have edited it, but I "lost" it. I got distracted and forgot where it was. EARTH to SAINT IKER!! Actually the real Saint Iker wouldn't screw this up! But if I played futfol as well as he did, I'd be living in Europe and not in Boulder -;)

Thanks! 20-20 hindsight is great, but why not take this to a jury and why not contest the insanity plea? I can't imagine a jury buying this defense and, I'm not familiar with the criminal procedure rules, but I think the decision to put up on one expert would have been reversible error if it could be brought to the appellate court before jeopardy attached. Were was the prosecution's expert? I hadn't followed the case and when I read the article, it sounded like a bench trial and then some of the comments made me think it might have been a hearing on the insanity defense. Errors were made all around and it is so sad that this woman will probably be free before we know it. The police must rightfully be beside themselves.

HUGE OOPS! In a reply to a comment I got the judge and Martinez confused ... I am still so utterly incensed with the outcome of this case and this woman getting away with murder, I can't think straight. I guess that would make me insane in the eyes of this judge who, in my opinion for whatever it's worth, made a mockery of our justice system and clearly should not be on the bench. To base a decision in a case like this on the testimony of one psychiatrist who had limited information: that's insane and very, very sad.

Do you know if Rochester opted for a bench trial before or after Martinez was drawn as the judge for this case?

That is true for a lot of people but not everyone. Don't get me wrong, I am utterly incensed by the judgment in this case and believe Rochester's "expert" is, along with her, a con artist. If you ever look at the licensing requirements for who can call themselves psychotherapists (basically anyone), you might find them utterly disgusting as I do. I've come across a lot of therapists who have absolutely no business being in the profession, in Boulder I believe they outnumber the good ones. That is why vetting is so important. You couldn't pay me to go to someone with a masters or lesser degree and not someone in the Boulder bubble of weirdness. But I believe there are some PhD's and MDs who really do help people. Maybe the insanity of this judgment will cause lawmakers to rethink the licensing requirements. I doubt it, but just maybe.

Under the law, "insane" means not knowing the difference between right and wrong. It's very simple. She may have mental health problems, but I don't buy and I don't understand why the judge bought that she didn't know while she was killing the baby that what she was doing was wrong. She's a con artist who got away with murder. This is a travesty; justice was not served today, it was demolished.

An absolute miscarriage of justice and reason for abolishing the insanity defense. If a person is sane enough to assist counsel with his or her defense, end of story. The judge bought the defense hook, line, and sinker and is obviously unqualified to be on the bench. This con artist got away with murder and it sickens me. I feel horrible for the father and grandparents and mostly for a baby who, because his mother was a murderer, was deprived of life.
