It's the only demographic that generates any kind of sympathy. No one gives a damn about the average pot smoker or how they face prison sentences rivaling those of rapists and murderers because they sold a joint to an undercover cop.

Besides, the cancer patients get a cheaper, natural, and much more effective alternative to an Oxycontin addiction.

The chance of consequences, especially that whole "death" thing, is enough to deter most criminals. If they believe you are armed, you will be skipped. If they know you are unarmed, you're going to get violated.

The only thing that happens when you ban guns is that normal, law-abiding citizens will be unarmed.

Criminals who intend to rob, assault, rape, or murder you will have an easier time of it.

Look at any city with bans on the sale and ownership of guns and you will see a rate of crime that dwarfs cities with no such ban. I do not care how bad your ovaries cramp at the thought of your neighbor owning a pistol or shotgun, I will defend myself as I see fit.
