Discworld books have such varying subjects and genres that it's sometimes odd to remember they're all taking place in the same universe. Just imagine, as Tiffany is dealing with the Wintersmith, slowly turning into a goddess of sorts, and having an elemental falling in love with her, elsewhere on the Disc, Sam Vimes is trying to manage the Watch and keep order in Ankh-Morpork, and Moist Von Lipwig is probably planning his latest stunt.

I mean, it may not feel that significant to some people, but for me it's so exhilarating when I think about all of these characters existing at the same time. Like, do you guys think Vetinari noticed that snowflakes are shaped like a person?

This whole section owns my soul.

'Then Tak looked upon the stone and it was trying to come alive, and Tak smiled and wrote: “All things strive” And for the service the stone had given he fashioned it into the first Troll, and delighted in the life that came unbidden. These are the things that Tak wrote!’
I can never not cry at this part. It's so beautiful. It hits exactly that sweet spot of hopeful fairytale/myth that appeals to me so much.

I actually think you're pretty on the money by comparing Sir Reynold's accent to Tahani, Mark. I think the accent Pratchett had in mind was exactly that level of pretentious.

I'm so glad this section made Fred the butt of the joke instead of Tawneee, and really, Discworld is pleasantly (and rather surprising, when you consider the fantasy genre) sex positive. Remember that time Granny Weatherwax said Mrs Palm is practically a witch and seemed genuinely respectful of the sex workers' craft? And she called out Nanny Ogg on her prejudice. And Nanny Ogg herself is never shamed by the narrative for her sexuality, if anything, the opposite is the case. And Miss Palm was an awesome character and an intelligent, ambitious woman in Night Watch who had her own story and motivations. (Not that I'm saying Discworld is unique in this regard, or that it couldn't be better, but you know what I mean.)

Reading this book again with Mark, especially the last few chapters, was so much fun because *he* was having so much fun and it was infectious. I'm so glad you enjoyed Going Postal so much, Mark, and here's hoping you'll continue to love the rest of the series as much. <3

I absolutely love Vetinari. I always get excited when there's a book set in Ankh-Morpork because I know he's going to show up at some point.

By the way, does anyone know any good tumblrs/YouTube channels/blogs/whatevers that talk about Discworld a lot? I would really appreciate some recommendations, now that I'm near the end of Discworld and don't have too many worries about spoilers.

I'm so proud of Moist for choosing to keep the clacks standing. He thought about all the horrible things that used to happen before the clacks came along, all the people that would be hurt if he had the clacks knocked down... And then he didn't. He chose to do what would actually get results and help people, rather than the thing that would feel more satisfying but would do more harm than good.

Mm... Dat character growth...

The only reason I didn't THROW my book in delight at the mention of Gilt living in "Tump Tower" when I read it is that I was reading on a kindle and I can't afford that kind of drama.

"Always remember that the crowd that applauds your coronation is the same crowd that will applaud your beheading. People like a show."

About this, I recently found out this gem :

(no spoilers in the link but the op's icon could be considered maybe slightly spoilery for the Going Postal adaptation so I'll quote the first post below)

"I dunno if y’all are following the official Terry Pratchett page on facebook or not but ever since the US election results came out they’ve been posting text images like these:

[Quote: “Always remember that the crowd that applauds your coronation is the same crowd that will applaud your beheading. People like a show.”]

and honestly the thought of Terry Pratchett throwing shade from beyond the grave is all that’s keep me going some days."

Erm, sorry to make this comment all about Trump. This particular section was just so relevant. But it gives me so much joy to read stories that condemn people like him and his ilk, and celebrate beautiful things like hope and kindness and fighting for justice instead.
