Additionally, one cannot ignore Jim Calhoun's personal contributions to charities and the success he has brought to the University of Connecticut. If you compare salaries of other top coaches in the NCAA, Jim's salary is on par with the Coach K's and the Roy WIlliams. Uconn has a tradition of excellence, 2 men's National Champions, 10 Regular Season Big East Titles, 6 Time Big East Tournament Champs. Without the Hall of Fame coach, this would not be possible. Jim apologized, the University issued its statements, the legislators got their TV time -- it is time to move on and deal with the more important issues such as the budget crisis and where is Jim going to display his next national title. This is UCONN Territory. If you don't know you better ask somebody.

Don't the legislators have more pressing issues? The question was out of line and largely ignored the facts. Jim Calhoun's response was less than desirable, but understandable give the nature of the post game interviews. Let's look at the facts; the University of Connecticut is where it is today in part due to the men's and women's basketball programs. The success of the basketball programs are largely driven by the desire and ability of the coaching staff. This would not even be news if the University of Connecticut was a bottom dweller in the Big East and unable to compete academically with other colleges nationwide. The University, the state, and it's citizens all benefit from the Jim's program. .
