Big Government : Big Labor's Compulsory Politics = $1.1 Billion in 2010 Election Cycle

As I look at this chart, a lot of things click. What do Democrats attack? The Pharmaceutical, Oil, and Tobacco Industries. What do these three have in common? They all contribute much more to Republican's than Democrats. Meanwhile, the Labor Unions, Teachers Unions, and Lawyers are almost solely contributing to Democrats! Which is why they get special protected status. It explains alot why there never will be tort reform, and these Unions will continue their stranglehold on US taxpayers.

During a break in service during the latter Clinton years, I worked at Veterans Stadium as a beverage manager. I was forced into a union. That union took dues right out of my check and I had no input in where thoose funds were used. The union did zip, zero, nada for me. What they did do was keep managers like myself from firing people when caught red handed stealing from the tills, or any of a hundred other scams that were ongoing in that facitity. I eventually got sick of it, when my dues were used to support canidates and anti gun measures I opposed and quit and rejoined the Army. Unions can kiss my rear end!

And I can get int trouble for this...but the problem isnt all Afghan. As I have explained, most of the people here are fine. The issue is the never ending stream of jihadists, extremist, AQ and TB a$$hats pouring over the Pakmil border. relatively safe in the FATA zone along the border. We cannot fire into Pakistan. The second they cross over however, GBU's, artillery, mortars, and machine guns go hot and start dropping.

If I didnt like the job or believe in the mission, I wouldnt have volunteered to stay in theater another year. The reason I posted was because of the hysteria and flat out distortions in the article like: "because troops are under orders to drive and walk the IED-laced roads and by-ways of Afghanistan". IED laced roads? Oh come on. Is there a threat? ABSOLUTELY...but to insinuate that this place is crawling with IED's on every road, on every patrol, and every soldier is at a daily threat is disingenuous. I go out on patrols all the time. Have I lost people? Yes, and it kills a part of me every time. But we either make a conscious decision to see this through, or turn this over to the extremists to move back in, set up training camps to eventually target us back home. We are taking it to the INS and they ARE on the ropes. More importantly, the ANA are taking the lead in operations and fighting the insurgency in at least our AOR...which was part of the plan all along. But they are in their infancy, and still need guidance and direction.

Its a lot more difficult of a situation than that. 90% of these people just want to be left alone. They are war weary from decades of fighting. In Bamyan, the Hazara people stood against the Taliban the best they could. For their efforts, there is literally an entire generation of males gone because they were rounded up by the Taliban and executed. Its not uncommon to see the young boys til about 16 to 20, and then then next male you see is elderly. Outside of Kabul or Jalalabad they are extremely poor. And I mean poor people. Living in mud houses, and growing enough food for the village with little to sell for profit. Electricity? The kind we think of nonexistant outside of the cities. It is 1390 here on the Afghan calendar..and too be honest, to our western eyes it looks like it. But there are really good folks here, just trying to survive until the next day. Sure theres things I dont like. The only thing they treat (by our standards) worse than women is their animals. But it wasnt too long ago we were in a similar situation. But family for them comes first. Always.

I’d also like to point out that IED’s are also non discriminatory a lot of the time, killing innocent civilians. And that the Afghan police and Army have been targeted far more than coalition due to our capabilities as referenced above. Just my 2¢ from Afghanistan.

Now...IED’s. It’s a misnomer that on every single patrol that an IED will be encountered, much less cause a casualty. Has the use of IED’s increased? Staying within OPSEC all I can say is that the insurgency has been forced to resort to these type of tactics. Whenever they mass for an attack, they are shellacked by coalition and Afghan Army units. This is a stealth, inexpensive way to inflict casualties to do one thing. Demoralize the general public back home to call for the withdrawal of troops from the region. Apparently according to this article, that strategy is beginning to bear fruit. What this article failed to say is the counter measures and vehicles we have, as well as training, to find and/or neutralize these threats before detonation. And yes, earning the trust of the local population by getting on the ground and talking with them, which also leads to those people providing information or warnings to real or future planned IED sites and those who are emplacing them.

I am going to take a beating for this, but here it goes. I have been on the ground here for 18 months. I was in Bamyan with the Hazara people training their police, and now in Jalalabad training the Afghan Army. I am about as conservative as they get...so there’s my qualifications. I know its conventional wisdom back home that these people are all out to get us. That is completely false. Most of them are just trying to make it through a very crappy day. They don’t care much what the next village is doing let alone a country on the other side of the planet. They are very poor people struggling to survive in what we would perceive as a primitive culture. Having said that, I have found them to be a generous and interesting people. Do I trust every one of them? No, but I could say the same about many American's back home. The biggest problem here isn’t the people themselves, but the influence of extremist Mullah’s, power hungry warlords, and outside extremist influences and fighters (AQ, HiG, TB).

Sir we DO see those immigrants coming to the United States exactly for the reasons you posted. And other than a couple bigoted Aholes are welcomed and flourish. What people like me do oppose is those slipping in under the cover of darkness and lining up to get the bennies, participating in crime, and then having the gall to wave their flag, speaking their native tounge, bad mouthing the country, all while demanding more on my homeland. Immigration is a great thing, but there can not be unfettered immigration where everything goes. That leads to balkanization and the death of any civil society. As for these good folks exporting those ideals home? I am not knowledged in those matters so will just end with, I hope so.

Thanks Maxine. Yeah..I was in under Reagan as well and in Germany when the wall came down. I can tell you stories about what happened after that and the conditions in the former East Germany. Try and have faith. Its hard even for me because many of the people we asking to have faith in are the very same people who put us in the situation we are in. All we can do is to continue to educate those within our spheres of influence, back canidates who reflect our values, and throw out the bums that dont, or are corrupted by inside the beltway politics and money. Even those who dont like politics or pay attention are starting to feel the pinch. And those folks vote with their pocketbooks and family situation. Stay safe, and God Bless.

Whoa, whoa, whoa..."peace-loving natives"??? Sir have you ever picked up a book on the "peace loving" way of the Aztec's and Mayan's? . I am not trying to start an argument with you or slap you down, but I am a little tired of the argument that the Native Americans, Native South American's, Native African's, and on and on were "peace loving people", living in harmony with nature and everything was rainbows an lollipops until the evil white Europeans arrived. While I will give you much wrong has been done by expansion, to include genocide of entire races...to make it sound as if these people where saints is disingenuous at best. The only difference between them and the Conquistadors is they were technologically inferior and defeated. Humans are humans for better or worse...to remember or revise history to paint some romantic vision is fantasyland.

The sale of the guns is realitively minimal. Especially at the FFL dealers level. And before you shellack all firearms dealers as crooked, even the ATF has admitted that many of them that knew these weapons were being sought by less than savory people refused to sell them...until the ATF stepped in and pressured them to complete the sale. www.cleanupATF.org Go to forums...Gun Walker.
