The games are largely self-contained in terms of story. There are a few that can branch between a few games (Path of Radiance & Radiant Dawn) and some that take place in the same "world" (Binding Blade & Burning Sword; Shadow Dragon & Mystery of the Emblem & Awakening) but in general, you can pick up anyone that looks good to you and just start playing. My personal favorites are Sacred Stones (Just got it's Wii U virtual console release for its 10th birthday) and Awakening.

Well, we had already dug the hole, held the funeral, and buried the body. Then it clawed its way out of the grave, stood up to a round of applause, threw up all over itself, and then promptly died again. I for one do not want to dig that hole again. I say we leave the body out and hope the animals don't pick off too many tender bits.
