TML Mobsters : TML Friday, 7/27

Re B2M: I liked his analogy of the 162 as a mosaic. I agree with that. No professional sport should be scrutinized less on a day in, day out basis than baseball, yet given the daily games - it's virtually impossible not to do so. People are feeling great about the club right now. But if the Astros have anyone other than CoCo as the closer, that series looks a whole lot different. It's true...winning cures a lot of things. The absence of Votto is masked by the final box score. Getting him back will be huge, but the top of the lineup has been turrible. The problem is, I don't think Victorino is the guy that makes this team a threat to make a deep post-season run. Who does? Is there one guy they can add that would truly make this team something more than just the champs of the Central? I don't see a Cliff Lee type pitcher available. Realistically the only positions the Reds may look at would be SS and CF...everywhere else they seem content. I think it would take two moves to make a deep run and I don't know that the Reds have the chips to trade or payroll to do two.

Re Reds: Nothing like a 3 game sweep of the Cards to make you feel like going Leonardo Dicaprio in Titanic and shout, "We're kings of the Central!" Great series and I was glad I got to spend it with family at the game on Saturday. Like BtwOSU said...love that two former Cards were the ones to win it for the Redlegs. Bailey continues to show more and more consistency. If he keeps it up, he'll exceed my prediction of a .500 pitcher. Great series!!

Re Chapman: Marty said it on Sunday. "Joe Morgan said it back in 1974. You can't throw the ball hard enough. They'll catch up to it." Gotta wonder if he's going through a slump or is actually a little more banged up (physically or mentally) than what the Reds are letting on. I think bringing him in for some less pressure situations where he has a nice cushion to work with is something the Reds really need to consider.

Re TML: Any updates on Paul's whereabouts? Just read yesterday's offering from a guest that was less than filling. Re Reds: Last night's game was really frustrating. Heisey's scamper toward home in the top of the 10th was great...only to be zapped by the homer in the bottom of the 10th. Chapman seemed to be struggling a lot last night - gotta wonder if he's going through a little slump himself right now. Maybe if it wasn't strictly fastballs...

Re Hitting coach (cont): And maybe that's the real problem. We've got Baker that is content with letting players call the shots and too worried about everyone's feelings, equal playing time, re-ordering toothpicks and picking out his newest titanium necklace to actually handle numbskulls like Special K Stubbs.

Re Hitting coach: By simply saying "the player has to want to change" it's kind of like saying, the patients are running the asylum. You establish the way things need to be done. Make it the Reds way. You hear about other great organizations - the Patriot way - there's an expectation on how you carry yourself and go about being a professional. So by simply saying, "well the guy has to want to learn," makes it sound like you have no influence over your players. I don't buy that for a second. And that's not what I want to hear from an organization that's trying to win a World Series. If I'm the GM or Dusty Baker - you tell everyone on the roster, "there's absolutely no excuse for you not to work at your position, or at the plate the same way Joe Votto does. Not all of you may be able to obtain that same level of success, but the way you treat your job should be the same. That's what we're establishing as an organization. If you're not doing that, we don't have room for you on the field."

Re Rome: He's a poser. Always trying to impress people, seem cool and name drop. Heard some other radio guy talking about he uses a teleprompter. Plus, you gotta believe that a lot of the e-mails and texts he receives are phony. Dan Patrick said it best last night, "if you dance with Stern, that's what you're going to get. He returns fire." Patrick went on to give some ways he would have gone about talking about the topic. Asking questions like "Why do these questions continue to surround the NBA?" "Why doesn't the audience get to see the balls being pulled," etc. Re Reds: You know BP's fire burns a little brighter when he plays Cleveland. Glad to see him have a big night last night. Re Cain: Nobody can diminish what he accomplished last night. I'm already tired of reading, well, it's the Astros. I don't care. These are still MLBers. It was amazing. Why no mention in TML today? Also no mention of Chad to the fins yet?

Bailey's stats: SEASON W L WHIP ERA 2007 4 2 1.57 5.76 2008 0 6 2.09 7.93 2009 8 5 1.47 4.53 2010 4 3 1.37 4.46 2011 9 7 1.28 4.43 2012 4 3 1.26 3.73 I'd take 2007 and 2008 out and he's 25-18, WHIP has decreased and ERA has decreased. Still think he'll be a .500 career pitcher. You're right Latos and Leake are bigger problems. Sounds like Reds are possibly calling up Negron? Dallas Latos - would never read her for her baseball insight (or really anything for that matter and didn't follow her on Twitter). Just don't like how that reflects on Cincinnati when you've got knuckleheads going after a player's wife. Yes, she puts herself out there more than others - still reflects poorly.

Re Reds: The universe kept its balance last night with Bailey. He throws a complete game in Pittsburgh to only go 3 innings last night. I'd say that's about right. I've come to accept that Bailey is a .500 pitcher. He's a #4 or #5 starter. There's no one that is going to be coming up 71 anytime soon to take his spot. The Reds don't seem to have much to trade either. So they'll continue to drift along. I'm just tired of all the Ks. I don't know how many the Reds had last night...last I saw it was 11 and only being 2 for 13 with RISP isn't getting the job done. Why are the Pirates the Reds kryptonite? Dallas Latos deleted her Twitter account due to the negativity she was receiving apparently. Why are "fans" attacking a player's wife?

Re Reds: Yes, the bench isn't inspiring a whole lot of confidence. This off season, the USS NL Central sprung a couple major holes when Pujols rocketed to Anaheim and Fielder jumped into a boat bound for Detroit. The remaining teams sat and listened to the music on the ship while the Reds went about making their plans (securing arms). The Central will continue to sink, but it will probably be enough for the Reds to simply sit in the life boat at sea while the other teams flounder around. I still think the Cardinals, while they're plagued with injuries right now, will try to commandeer the life boat at some point. In my opinion, we still need someone that can swing a strong oar and keep the Cardinals in the water a while longer. The problem is, I'm sure payroll is an issue and there's not much in the way of prospects that are close to ready and that's what it would take, unless there's someone from the 25 you'd be willing to part with...Stubbs or Heisey? Would you give up either one of those guys? Maybe Alfredo Simon or someone from the bullpen if Masset and Bray ever get healthy?

Re Votto sitting: There's never a good day to rest one of the few consistent producers. And I thought it was a fine day. Cueto is going to keep the score low so the other guys should be able to put together something to make it competitive. I thought it made sense. Re TM vs TML: I've never had to ask Paul for a particular date because I can find it myself. Re lower beer prices: Duh. But I don't think I have as much a problem with it anymore. If people want to spend that much for beer then that's on them. You won't see me buying any at that price. Yes, lower beer prices will bring more people down, but then what type of atmosphere are you creating? Will it be as family friendly as it is now? I really don't know. Maybe it would be the same, just with more people or maybe it takes on more of a bar feel with a baseball game going on. If people stop buying then the price should fall. Until then...

Re TML vs TM: I like the raw feel of the morning line. I'll occasionally check out the TM offering. I can recall favorite TMLs more readily - Jillian's birthday was my favorite. Liked the one he did right after his friend passed away. The rawness over the polished piece in the TM feels more genuine. I can connect to it more. He does have some good one-liners in the TM, but they usually appear in some form in TML as well. In my opinion, TML>TM - feels more conversational and I like that.

Re Pro Bowl coming back in 2013: Why? I gotta believe the NFL players just want a free trip to Hawaii to hang out with their buddies. Can't be anything else, could it? Re NBA/Glen's fake outrage: Sad to see a grown person acting that way. Anonimity or not. But Doc stooping down to Swigs level is unnecessary. Just follow the quote: "Never argue with a fool; onlookers may not be able to tell the difference." Unless he needs to get up page hits.
Re BtwOSU: Read about your trip yesterday, couldn't post, but glad you guys had a good time. Blue Ash Chili > Skyline. Skyline, I'd say, is somewhat of an acquired taste. My folks from out-of-town didn't care for it. Neither did I for a couple years. Now, I genuinely like it. I wish I could say the same for Larosas. I hate (a word I don't like to use too often) Larosas pizza. The sauce is far too sweet. Someone once told me they put sugar in their sauce. I don't know if that's true or not (actually a quick Google search did just confirm that). At family get togethers, Larosas is ALWAYS the pizza that's ordered because A.) Everyone knows their phone number and they'll deliver. B.) Those in the family that have not traveled beyond the I-275 noose think it's the best pizza in the world (editor's note: it's not even the best pizza in the city - Dewey's is far better, but I'm still looking for decent pizza in Cincinnati, I've heard about Chi-nnati but haven't had it yet).

What's a proposed solution from UC and X? * Take two rival schools and put them downtown. * Increase total capacity from 10K at Xavier and 13K at UC to 17K down at US Bank * Add a few bars * Place in crock pot for 3 hours * Watch fan behavior worsen

Police say the shooting started after a confrontation between two groups of people. Cornett said city officials loved the spirit shown by the 6,000 or more people who gathered outside the Chesapeake Energy Arena to watch the game Monday, but the shooting incident afterwards in nearby Bricktown demonstrated the problems with such a setup.
