What a fascinating article! I had to do a double take when I came across the name of Joe Watson. My dad purchased the INVADER at the 1968 Antique Boat Show. It was not a Garwood. Invader was a 30' Sea Lyon powered by a Hall-Scott 275hp INVADER engine. Sea Lyon, was a brand created by Howard W. Lyon who owned a Gar Wood dealership in City Island, NY. Invader had spent her previous 8 years on the hard at Mercier's yard and she leaked like a sieve but she ran flawlessly. We drove her home in a blinding rainstorm to our island in Alex Bay. The following week she was hauled at Hutchinson's for the leak repairs. Her 6 volt electric was converted to 12 volt for faster cranking. Dad soon sold it to a friend who moved her to Oneida Lake for a few years then sadly lost her in a barn fire.
Sea Lyons were rare but there was/maybe is another like it around Clayton. I think I saw it sometime in the last several years at St. Lawrence Restoration. The name is Bon Papa. I had seen her all around the area for decades but don't know her owns her. I found a pic of Invader taken on the day we took her home. Would love to post here if I knew how. Copy/paste doesn't work. Again Thanks TI Life and Tom Robbins for such a great article.
