My dear father came to the U.S. when he was 14; he jumped ship [busboy on a Cunard line] in NYC and made a life here. He had to go into Canada illegally, get his documents in order, and return to the U.S. so he could marry my mother. He loved this country more than anyone I know. I am glad to have found this website and look forward to getting more involved in this most worthy cause.
