<title>Andrew Wolk : Data – Collecting, Reporting, and Using it!</title>
<link>http://andrewwolk.com/2009/03/03/data-%e2%80%93-collecting-reporting-and-using-it/#IDComment18681460</link>
<description>Part 1: In the article, &amp;ldquo;Data &amp;ndash; Collecting, Reporting, and Using it!,&amp;rdquo; Andrew Wolk wrote that data may be the most critical issue for the soon-to-be-established White House Office of Social Innovation to prioritize. &amp;ldquo; If we are going to strive to advance a social innovation agenda,&amp;rdquo; he wrote, &amp;ldquo;we need to get a better handle on data &amp;minus; how we collect it, how we report it, and how we use it.&amp;rdquo; True enough. But given the vast amount of data available for capture, and our ever growing computer-based ability to crunch and manipulate it, we need to be smart about what data we focus upon if we are to wind up with something useful -information leading to knowledge and understanding&amp;mdash;rather than just volumes of numbers and charts that serve no useful purpose. The question is not &amp;ldquo;what data can we obtain?,&amp;rdquo; but &amp;ldquo;what data do we need?&amp;rdquo; </description>
