Banks are still not loaning to buy a new car. Now dealerships are closing. Those dealerships which are closing are considered commercial real estate (CRE). We’ve already seen what happened when people did not make the mortgage payments on their homes, (i.e. all of the derivatives/securities associated with them). I’ll wager that there are derivatives/securities on those CRE mortgages/loans just as there were on residential real estate mortgages/loans. Look for another bail-out of the financial institutions soon. I hope I am wrong...

I can live with the outcome of any congressional vote provided that each vote reflects the will of each congressman’s constituents. However, 35,000 lobbyists/special interest groups ‘contributing’ money to members of congress (both dems and repubs, both incumbents or new elected, and both house and senate), thus overruling the will of the constituents, is, IMHO, taxation without representation. Eliminate their monetary influence!!!

I have read a lot of comments in which people blame one party or the other. I suggest reading/listening to 2 websites. It proves that it really doesn’t matter which party has been ‘in control’; generally, lobbyists contributed just about equally to each party and/or politician. So, voting politicians out of office in 2010, and advocating term limits, may sound like solutions; but the lobbyists will probably just continue to contribute to the new ‘incumbents’. So, to me, the problem will still exist: lobbyists (and their money) influencing our elected politicians Therefore, the problem that needs to be solved is, “how do we eliminate lobbyists’ influence over our elected officials?” I will admit I am not smart enough to propose a solution; however, some solutions I have heard all involve how we are taxed, eg ‘national sales tax’, ‘flat tax’, ‘fair tax’… any one of which, I would support. Let them have their bonuses! I read this on some other blog: Dear Representative, I am outraged that companies like AIG are using my hard-earned tax money, given to them in good faith to shore up their corporate debt, as bonuses. Please pass this as a retroactive law: All bonuses; paid out to employees, executives, or officers of any unit or subsidiary of any corporation receiving federal aid, in the period beginning 1/1/2008 and continuing; must be reported to the IRS as 'bonuses under federal aid.' All 'bonuses under federal aid' will be deducted from regular income, and must be federally taxed at the rate of 120%, with no exception. Thank you, Signed
