I know kids that are succeeding wildly in rural school districts. I also have watched kids fail miserably in those same areas. Are charter schools the answer? I don&#039;t know. They appear to be a good idea. Sadly, the politics from the WEA &amp; Unions would block any attempt to pilot a few charter schools in this state to test the idea. There are charter-like schools in this state already. They are commonly called ALEs. Many are successful on many measurements. But they drain resources from mainstream education in the name of &quot;saving the child&quot; from failing. I can not say that charter schools are the solution but why not give them a try? The current public school system is limping along to the point that, as a whole, it can not meet standards and thus the entire state needs an exemption.
