The owner is an idiot. She clearly has no understanding of firearms or responsible pet ownership. This isn't the movies where you fire off a warning shot, then clip the bad guy (or dog) in the ear to down him. Law enforcement is trained that if you draw your firearm and aim it at a subject, it's for defense of yourself or the public. When you pull the trigger, you are authorized to use lethal force to eliminate the threat. You don't shoot once, then see if the offender apologizes, then shoot again until they do. You shoot to eliminate the threat. The officer did so, and should be commended. The dog already attacked another dog, and bit a person, all because the owner was irresponsible. Lady, you should feel bad. Your wrecklessness caused your pet to be killed. I hope you get stuck with vet and hospital bills too, as the other victim seeks medical treatment for the injuries your dog caused.

Creationists, this finally proves Darwin's theory, er, LAW of survival of the fittest. You never point a gun at something you don't plan to shoot, and you always expect a discharge every time you pull the trigger.

KVAL - Eugene, OR : Man hurt in fight at Occupy camp is dead | Local & Regional News for Eugene, Springfield Oregon | Eu

A city park is a home? I don't know if the guy deserved to be beaten to death or not, but saying that the Occupy Crowd, after being told they legally need to leave, continue to squat, tells me they need to be forcibly removed. I think you'll find a lot of the so-called 99% that would volunteer their efforts to make this happen. There was an interview with a homeless occupier and he said the city needs to treat him better. He was demanding full dental and health benefits, and an upgrade to his campsite as a condition to him moving out of the park. I pay rent, pay hundreds of dollars a month in healthcare premiums for my family, and haven't had dental insurance in well over a decade...and I actually work and pay taxes. If this low-life idiot is demanding free health, dental, and improved living quarters, I'm entitled to a heck of a lot more. I think lots of people are dismayed with the current inequality in our economic system, but ironically, 99% of the Occupy movements are so undesirable, so uninformed, and so disconnected from reality, it makes the few who are protesting for noble reasons look just as crazy as the majority.

You aren't interested in self-protection? I sure am. If a dog was charging me or my family violently, I would use all resources at my disposal to eliminate the threat. Nice "me against the world" post though. Here's to hoping you sport your TapOut shirt while wrestling an attacking dog to the ground bare-handed. Bonus points if you can make him bark "uncle".

Of course, it's always the dog that's so great with people, loves kids. Here's a thought, if you're in an apartment complex, maybe everyone doesn't love your territorial pitbull as much as you do. If it's off a leesh and charges an officer, I would expect the animal to be shot 100/100 times. Thank God no people were injured by the owner's irresponsible actions.

Wait a second, the mother ran out of gas, and decided to go walking off with her 4 year old, leaving her 2 year old in the car alone, for an hour? Why didn't she bring both kids, no, why did she ever have children. May God protect this child, and may someone slap some damned sense into the mother before her carelessness impacts her other child.

Wow, he's rather brazen about this crime. But let's be realistic, while he's a sleezebag for illegally importing ammo, what is a person going to do with 500 rounds, and nothing to shoot them with? No reasonable danger to anyone on those flights.

If you read the article, you would see that she is already electing to get rid of her gun. @baldrodinson, I also think people who have children shouldn't be allowed to consume/possess alcohol or cigarettes, but we have personal freedoms. Choosing to carry a gun is one of those.

Yikes, while I wholeheartedly agree that she is an irresponsible parent for allowing children access to guns, your clever comment it to shoot her? That's pathetic. Thank God everyone survived such a horrible lapse in parenting, and that things weren't much worse than the excruciating pain the child was/is likely in.

Agree to disagree. It's your list, not mine :p I just don't think beating someone in one game, head to head, makes you better than them. For example, God willing WHEN the Beavers beat the Ducks, I'll readily admit that the Ducks are a better team, but for that day, it won't mean a dam [sic] bit of difference to me.

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: USC fallout

I haven't read through all the weekend articles yet, but was anyone else, stunned, thankful, impressed, amazed, and proud to see Riley getting a little pissed off on the sidelines? I don't think you can scream at an official to get a call changed, and being a screamer all the time makes you a loudmouthed whiner (see Stoops and Kelly), but for a guy like Riley who barely looks alive at times when his team is getting jobbed to start screaming, REALLY has an impact on the players, the coaches, and the officials. I would like to see a few more instances of Coach Riley really getting after someone. Not a bunch, but certainly a few. Great win, great leadership by Riley (who I've been very critical of).

I get the snapshot comment, but come on. Going from 10th to 3rd because of one game is pretty damn homer. I don't recall, was Stanford 10th after the Ducks destroyed them in the 2nd half? I doubt it. The Beaver team is wildly inconsistent. I hope they win the next two (especially the Civil War), but come on, OSU is 6th in the conference at best.

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: UCLA fallout

I found that to be the most embarrassing loss in the last 10 years. This has become a mediocre football team, and on the path to becoming a mediocre program. I despise the Ducks, but as the two programs make clear and pronounced moves in the opposite direction, these type of games are increasingly unacceptable. The Ducks have a bad half, then turn it around and beat the hell out of the opponent. OSU has a bad half, and it only ends up getting worse. Is it coaching, is it talent, is it the lack of a bigtime booster? There seem to be systemic problems right now. This UCLA loss is the type where you leave your orange and black in the closet for a few days longer than usual. Your kid wants to wear his Quizz jersey on Sunday morning and you encourage he sport the Elmo overalls instead. This season isn't about in-State bragging rights anymore, it's about not becoming a Pac 10 doormat. This is doom and gloom.

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Washington fallout

I'd say rather than guts, Riley exposed our insides. The D was amazing in the second half, Locker had been prone to turnovers, Katz now knows that two picks in the endzone, and throwing the last incomplete pass came from his hand. I don't see any silver lining in this one. Washington is just an unpredictable as OSU. Great one week, terrible the next. The Beavers don't need coaching decisions to pile on too. Katz will be great, this wasn't his finest effort. Don't make the game more difficult for the kid than it needs to be.

Horrible decision. Every year OSU loses 1-2 games because of terrible coaching. Go for 2 in Double OT, when the next round of OT requires you go for two? Not have Quizz involved on the terrible playcall? OSU was undefeated in the conference, now they're in the mix of "a bunch of other teams". I know they were with out James, but it's going to be like that all year. You can't replace him, and you certainly don't, by making stupid decisions at the end of the game. If they converted, I'd be happy, but it would still be a terrible playcall. Frustrating.
