I disagree with you. I am no fan of this war. I have lost several very close friends to it. But, it all started with a bombing of innocent victims on our soil. Mr. Shahzad could have been frustrated with what he saw in his native land....I'll give you that. But, his actions do not solve a single thing, in fact they make it worse. History is quite telling, violence always begets violence. Mr. Shahzad had a choice! He could have come back to the land of the free and used his voice and pen to change the culture for the better. Instead, he chose to bomb and instill fear throughout the land. Basically he took the cowards way out! Middle America does not want the war, but it also won't live with the threat of terrorism in our land. Say what you want about predator drones, but little by little and day by day the very few people who live as cowards, want to rule by fear and intimidation, and will even go so far as to make their women and children carry suicide bombs into places throughout the world are being singled out. When they are gone another will come along... I keep thinking about the ones that flew the planes during 9/11 and took my niece. Devout to their religion, but spent one heck of a lot of time at local strip clubs planning their attack.

I hate how Gregoire lied her way into office.... I hate what she has done to the state and area that I love...But I could not agree more with you, and how well you said it! I still firmly believe that beyond the mandates of society there are plenty of things that we pay for which are not necessities. I for one would like to see a snapshot of the current 2010-2011 budget. Might be interesting, and thanks for being real!

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Boeing to study its options for tanker contract | KOMO News - Breaking News, Sports, Traffic and Wea

As a small construction contractor, the company I work for has done jobs on Bangor, McChord, Ft. Lewis, Whidbey Island Naval Base, Bremerton Naval Hospital, and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. In each of these jobs it was required that all parts used must be "purchased and manufactured" in the United States. The reasoning is that in the time of war, parts must be readily available for replacement for the soldiers comfort and health. Boeing does outsource many of it's parts, but even the outsourced parts are still manufactured by official Boeing partners. I fail to see the logic behind asking foreign countries/manufacturers to bid upon a major piece of our military infrastructure. When is the Government going to wise up and stick with the criteria as initially intended?

In my humble opinion, the problem really isn't with the Democrats or the Republicans....The real problems seems to be the fact that the city of Seattle has all the voting power in this state. Other cities are stuck with whatever Seattle votes into office. Rossi carried the majority of this state and warned us all about the huge deficit that was looming. Perhaps it is time to re-draw our voting districts so that all of this state gets counted and not just one group of people

Years back I actually worked on Mary's towing fleet of trucks. They stiffed us for the bill. Later when it got heavy, they towed my vehicle from a legally parked spot assigned to me in an apartment complex. As we fought the bill grew and I had to pay it in order to get my vehicle back to keep my job. Eventually I got some of my money back. Lessoned I learned out of all this, if it has the words "Tow Truck" on the side and you do business with it, you might as well make a deal with the devil.

My Favorite...Heading up Highway 18 at 5:00am two months ago. Raining hard and pitch dark when some overly important idiot in a black BMW decides to latch his front bumper to the back of my big truck. Now I am doing 65 in 55, but no, this was not good enough for Captain tighty-whiteys. We get to the 18/I-90 interchange and to my misery he has to follow me towards Bellevue. I-90 is 70Mph then so as we round the corner I am mashing the pedal to get up to speed to make my merge. Well, you guessed it, halfway down the on ramp I am at 68 and accelerating and Captain WTs is hitting 90. In his infinite wisdom he decides to save himself 4 seconds and teach me a lesson at the same time. Unfortunately for him the majority of the gore strip has a huge water runoff ditch down it. It was amazing to see a $40k car go airborn, roll twice and nearly get flattened by a big ol Semi heading for Seattle. Lucky for him he survived. Maybe next time he will skip the whitey tightys and put on his big boy underwear and drive like a man.

What an absolutely astounding conclusion you have come to...You must be one of those incredibly hyper intelligent people who can read a paragraph posted on KOMO and deduce the exact problem with out having been there or reading the police report. We should all bow in your honor towards your magnificent mental capacity. It must be tough knowing that you are far smarter than everyone else. With those unbelievable mental powers that you have, I am certain that you know that bus drivers are not permitted to use GPS, nor do they drive the same route every day. I'll bet it is elementary to you that Bus drivers have to deal with a very large vehicle, new routes, everyday traffic, all while reading the route off a clipboard, and dealing with Momma and Papa's pride and joy, whom really are more than a handful without the watchful eye of the teacher. With your vast superior mental capacity, I have to agree, he or she, should have paid better attention and I hope that the children are ok.... Perhaps this poor normal and unintelligent bus driver had to make a split second decision in order to avoid someone like you who super calculated his or her trajectory and speed and made a split second lane change.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Climber falls into Mt. St. Helens crater | KOMO News - Breaking News, Sports, Traffic and Weather -

Thank you, It was not really my intent to sway you, but just add a voice towards another direction. We as a society waste so much money, time, and lives for things that with a little common sense could be so easily avoided. You hit a nerve when you mentioned animal rescue....Yes, I agree with you much is spent on animal rescue, but for many animals, there is no other way. Far too many stories of old cat women (Old ladies with 20 or more cats living in squalor) Puppy mills (dogs with fur matted in feces) or horse stables with horses just over the weight of an average person. Yet, for every story we read, there are more left to report. As the current top of the evolutionary chain, we have a moral obligation to care for those that cannot take care of themselves. It is not a right, but rather a privledge and a requirement. As a tax based concerned citizen of the state of Washington, I hate to waste money on this topic as much as I hate to waste money on any topic. As a widower raising several children and trying to balance a serious budget every tax hurts beyond belief. That said, we can eat simple meals more often than naught knowing that there are no more Pasado stories (The donkey that was murdered for fun) and from all that I sleep more peacefully knowing in my heart that in some small way a puppy, a dog, some kitten, or maybe even a horse might have made it through the day happy and healthy. Not to seem shallow, but I fail to see how helping the under privledged members of our world through taxation equates to using brutally hard earned tax money to rescue some damn fool walking on the cornice of Mt. St. Helens during the midst of winter. After all the puppies in the mill are their by human choice and so is the man stuck in the crater.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Climber falls into Mt. St. Helens crater | KOMO News - Breaking News, Sports, Traffic and Weather -

In my mind it is pretty simple....(No jokes please) $35 bucks a month covers my place from fires, floods, and lots of other nasty things. I pay state and local taxes so expect the fire department or police to show up in the event of an emergency. It's logical to expect them to be able to drive to my home as the roads are paved and the homes have an address. If I was huddled up in the crater of a volcano, I am not so certain that it would take them three minutes to get to me..... My point is; climbing a mountain is a choice, a choice fraught with risk and adventure. i have nothing against those that seek adventure or wish to climb mountains. I would rather that my small piece of the collective taxpayer base be used in a more logical and constructive way. A little bond, or a small bit of insurance is not too much to ask of those that dare to brave the elements, risk it all for their own ideal of glory. I think back to the incident on Mt. Hood and wonder how the families of the rescuers would vote on this topic since several brave men and fathers no longer are at home to see their children grow up. Who financially takes care of these families when a mountaineer gets lost and the rescuers get killed trying to help? Meanwhile we have schools relying on bonds to teach our children, cops getting killed, prisons filled beyond capacity, and I-960 being overturned to fulfill a 2.8 billion dollar state deficit. I ask why is it a free ride to safety for someone who makes a poor choice on a mountain when the rest of us are drowning in taxes and hard times?

Agreed, no worries. We do pay for Fire departments through our taxes, and the idiots who leave their stoves on, smoke in bed, etc. pay for the demolition of their homes through personal homeowners / renters insurance. This is my point exactly. As a local resident, we all support search and rescue. It is part of our tax base. In these very trying economic times I ask why we are wasting valuable dollars on Mountaineers. I Don't think you read my original post completely, or I was not stating what I meant thoroughly. You ask, "Again, I think there are a small number of fools to the smart adventurers. Why not make people individually responsible rather than burdening the lot? " I believe that was what I asked for. A bond cost a very small amount and covers a very large item. Any serious mountaineer will tell you that it is difficult and dangerous to climb a mountain. Weather and conditions can change in minutes, Ice and snow are difficult to predict. Since a small handful of the general population really enjoys this adventure, I see no reason why they are not able to financially accept the required risks of others lives and equipment to bail them out when they failed to predict or protect themselves.

The climbers I am referring to are not your garden hikers... But mountain climbers. Every year there are plenty of stories on this web site about experienced hikers getting lost or falling. I am not asking for bonds for anyone just walking through the forest, but only for those that go so far up and are in such dire need that airlift is the only way to help them. Two or three years back a copter and the entire crew were killed trying to rescue "experienced" climbers off of Mt. Hood. I am simply asking why do I have to pay for such fool hardy adventures. I enjoy the mountains, I respect their power, but I don't respect those that waste our collective taxpayer money for their own stupidity. Also currently there is no law that requires rescued people to pay for their rescue.
