I appreciate your technical legal explanations. It helps me understand why such rulings are made. I don't want my knees to jerk. Do you have legal training?

The Wild Hunt : On Faith: Faith and Feminism

I wanted to respond to the Catholic priest that wrote a piece. At the end he was trying to explain to kindergardeners why women can't be priests. To paraphrase he told a story how Bob and Alice were in a play as husband and wife. They practiced and were very good, but on opening night Bob got sick. Suzie was just as good an actor as Bob. So why couldn't Suzie play the husband. Of course the kids said that husbands are men and Suzie was a woman. So Mr Priest says that's why women can't be priests. That's where I wanted to say..."Priests are married to God, so God must be a WOMAN!!!" I won't go into the other option.

The Wild Hunt : Quick Note: Vancouver Chauffeur Case Comes to a Close

There were several unconnected allegations against him. And while he may have been found "not guilty" that's not the same as innocent. It just means that the state didn't have enough evidence to convict. At least that's in the US (Canadian mileage may vary - but I doubt it's that far off)

The Wild Hunt : Psychic Services and the Law: Mary K. Greer

The way I see it, airline pilots, acupuncturists, doctors, lawyers, school bus drivers and such are not the same as the business owners and the license to operate those businesses. If I were to open a medical practice and employ a doctor, nurses and medical assistants, I would not have to have a medical license to do so, just a business license. The individual practicioner would have to keep up his or her own license to practice. The ordinances in question are not fairly licensing businesses, they are pushing a political agenda. The fraud laws are very adequate to handle the true legalities of this.

However, it is the employer that is requiring the background checks and fingerprints of an employee, not the government requiring the employer/business owner to submit. There is a very discinct difference. One is discriminatory government practice applied to one type of business and the other is a common private pre-hire business practice applied to all applicants.

The Wild Hunt : Return of the "I Believe" Plates

Frankly I deplore all the specialty plates. It doesn't matter what they're for! Here in Connecticut, we have ones that are supposed to be for Pets, to help with low/no cost spay/neuter. I can't see where the funds are going! I can't see where all the extra funds for these plates benefit the supposed cause. Liscense plates are identification of cars, so you know who hit you and took off. It used to be that I could look at a plate and instantly tell what state it was from just by it's color pattern. CT was navy blue background with white lettering, NY was a goldenrod back with navy lettering, MA was white back with red lettering, etc. Now with all the funky plates I don't know which is which anymore. The specialty plates defeat the purpose of plates.

The Wild Hunt : Death Sentence Because of Satanism?

Satan is all evil? I remember watching a PBS program with Joseph Campbell describing Lucifer. Lucifer was God's highest angel. Lucifer loved God completely and would only serve him. Then God created man and told Lucifer to serve man. Lucifer couldn't serve anyone before God. For Lucifer's disobedience God cast him out. Lucifer's only "crime" was that he loved God too much. Could he really be all evil then? This is the basis of Christian mythology. I think that the judge better check up on his facts of the origins of "Christian doctrine"

The Wild Hunt : Quick Notes: Fortunetelling Laws, Ali Sibat, and Vodun Activism

If you believe in reincarnation, then maybe he's one of the Obas who were involved in the slave trades to the Americas long ago and saw the horror that became of that and is making amends. Or it could just be that the current Oba has learned from history. Like I've heard...those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

The Wild Hunt : Christensen's Religion Will Be Central in Sherry Harlan Murder Trial

I do remember I believe 2 very high profile cases of Christian Scientist parents who were prosecuted for negligent homicide in the deaths of their children. Their beliefs were called into question and "put on trial" too. The government has no problems with doing anything if it suits their purpose. The end justifies the means to them. It was wrong then as it is wrong now.

The Wild Hunt : The Psychic Wars Continue

Ordinances like this are purely for the religious aspect, because the scam artists are covered under the fraud laws in all states and depending on the severity of the crime, a felony. These are much like the "Blue Laws" that were in New England, most of which have been repealed.

The Wild Hunt : Quick Note: Should Christians Rent Space to Pagans?

I was the co-pastor of a New Age Metaphysical Church in Connecticut before totally and completely devoting to the Pagan Path (I always had the leaning and thought processes - I was raised a free thinker). But I found a space for our Sunday services at a local synagog! The rabbi and board looked at our group and said that we may not use the sanctuary or kitchen, bring in food, we could however bring in bottled soda, water or non-dairy drinks. (we respected their restriction due to their dietary and sacred places in the temple) In return we could use their meeting hall. They gave us the key to the front door and space to keep our song books and sandwich board sign. We paid weekly rent. This was a beautiful relationship of 2 faiths with differing ideals working for the betterment of both. We got space at a reasonable rate and they got a respectful and grateful tenent. We stayed there until the church closed it's services three years after moving into the synagog. This was over ten years ago when it wasn't so popular to rent to "different" groups.

The Wild Hunt : After the Parliament: Who's Indigenous? Who's a NRM?

By being born of I didn't mean the land, but the religion, the society, the community. Your example of the Pottowatomi peoples would still be indiginious, they have still been "born of" or "native" to their beliefs. I never said that the actual land had anything to do with it.

WAVY.com : Man arrested on sex charges with minor

I just hope that the "justice" system doesn't let him off easy. He should get the max and have to serve it out completely--in the general population of a maximum security prison (that's true justice). Statistics prove that once a child molester, always a child molester and usually more than one child.

The Wild Hunt : After the Parliament: Who's Indigenous? Who's a NRM?

To me, an indiginous religion is one that is practiced by a group of peoples that have been together for generations in the same community without break. Anything else is reconstructionist. Neither is better than the other. Both fulfill the divine-human connection for the participant. The word's etymological root means "native" which means "to be born of". This doesn't change the meaning of Pagan one bit to me. I will always remain a Pagan. I am not part of an indiginous religion. Please, we need to stop trying to make ourselves look "respectable" to others on their terms. I am respectable on my own. I do not need to validate myself by their standards. I have constructed a sytem that blends both my husband's Nothern European mutt heritage with my English/Scottish/Icelandic heritage into a workable trad and we are teaching this to our children and others that join our kinship. Is this any less valid than any other tradition, indiginous, reconstructionist, syncrenistic, or just plain made up? It works. That's all that matters. Blessings to all.

I am of Icelandic descent, and I am here. My maternal grandmother came over in the late 1800's, entering North America by way of Winnepeg and migrating south to Minnesota. That's where she met my Grandfather, also of Icelandic descent (although I don't know much of his family tree). I have great ties to the Old Ones of kith and kin, but I am also an American.

Why boycott? Because the manager acted as the agent of the company. The company is responsible for their agent's behavior. If the manager has harmed the employee by way of the company, the company must make restitution. One way to let the company know that others know of the situation is by boycotting and letter/e-mail writing.
