Connecticut News, Weather and Traffic | WTNH.com : All aboard for women on submarines | wtnh.com connecticut

Just look at it this way, our NATO allies allow women to serve in combat jobs including submarines if they can meet the physical, medical and psychological standards for the job. The first country to put women on submarines was the Royal Norwegian Navy and in 1995 the Royal Norwegian Navy has it's first female Submarine captain. In 1998 the Royal Australia Navy followed the same thing and allowed women on their submarines as well and after that Canada and Spain as well. So if the US has an issue, I would tell them to go look at our allies in Norway, Canada, Australia, Spain and ask them how they adapt, over come and allowed women to serve on their submarines.

The thing with schools like Norwich University is that they are majority of Army, Navy, Air force and Marine corp. Your rarely see a US Coast Guard commission program at schools like Norwich University. From what I am told about Norwich University is that it's the West Point lite because Norwich University is the place that founded ROTC

That's why when I had blogger, I learned the ugly truth about blogger being owned by Google and the quality started to slip. With Wordpress, everything is faster and people have wider input on what to put into wordpress. In wordpress, you have far greater freedom and control than you would with blogger. One feature I like about wordpress, is the templates and the ability to block or moderate people by name, email and IP. Even the stats are far better than bloggers.

I think it would be nice to see the Coast Guard Auxiliary deployed with the COMFORT. I know their are auxiliarist, who are Doctors, Nurse's, paramedics and EMT's such as myself who would like to jump at the chance to deploy with the COMFORT. It would bring added skills to the COMFORT and I know the Auxiliary would be a great asset to the COMFORT because we can not only teach our core areas, we can also provide administrative, logistical, construction and medical to the missions that the USNS COMFORT does. What the Coast Guard Leadership should do and should be doing right now, is to see if they can integrate the Coast guard and the Coast Guard Auxiliary into the deployments of the USNS COMFORT and USNS Mercy. This would be a great idea for the US Coast Guard to be diplomatic with other countries and it would even be able to help out others as well.

CGBlog.org :: An Unofficial Coast Guard Blog : Is the Coast Guard to loose its Social Media crown?

Ryan, Just remember, the US Coast Guard was and is the first military service to beat the others to the punch. We beat out the US Army, US, Navy, US Air Force and the US Marine Corps to the Social media punch. We actually cornered the market on military social media and now the US Army, US Navy, US Air force and US Marine Corps are playing catch up to the level of the US Coast Guard. It's going to take them time to get to the level that the US Coast Guard's in and if you look at the other service's blogs, youtube pages, and Facebook pages. Their not at the level that the US Coast Guard's in. Their are even some Coast Guard Districts that have even podcast their news and meetings online as well. Even today, the US Air Force Started a blog and a Youtube page. Even the US Navy has a Youtube page as well. So it goes to show that while the US Coast Guard is a head of the social media curve, the rest of the DOD has to play some serious catch up if they want to be on the same level as with the US Coast Guard's in. So it's safe to say, that the US Coast Guard is not going to lose the social media crown to the US Army or the rest of the DOD because, they still haven't gotten to the level of twtter, facebook, podcasting or streaming live video feeds. Here's the link to the story that I found in Yahoo news, that I sent to you; Pentagon uses Facebook, Twitter to spread message http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090501/ap_on_go_ca_s...

Have you ever seen the movie "Out Break" and even the book/Movie by Stephen King, The Stand. Those two are goo examples of why we should plan for outbreaks and pandemics. Even now, I get weary, if someone sneezes, coughs or has a cold in public., Even now, I start hand washing often and even sanitize my workstation and at home.

I think this is also a good time for the Active, Reserve and Auxiliary community to preplan for stuff like this and even review how we as the US Coast Guard is going to be doing it's business in the wake of Swine flu outbreak or any pandemic such as the flu or Ebola. This should serve as a wake up call for the US Coast Guard to review how we are going to be doing our jobs in the wake of pandemics and outbreaks where people are going to be sick, at home or even quarantined. I also think that the ones who really have to worry about this, is Coast Guard Units that are in California, Texas and New York. Their the ones that are seeing outbreaks of swine flu and those who border them, should be aware of them and be vigilant about them.

CGBlog.org :: An Unofficial Coast Guard Blog : Admiral Allen on the Worlds Piracy Threat (and opinion)

We do have the laws on the books, it's just that we hadn't used it or dragged it out in a very long time. The last time the Letters of Marque and Reprisal were used was during the American Revolutionary war and the War of 1812. It's the same with Piracy laws, we have it on the books in the US Code, but we hadn't used it in over a 100 years. Even Congressman Ron Paul of Texas is calling for congress to drag out the old Constitution law and use the Letters of Marque and Reprisal to go after the terrorist and pirates as well. So now with this 4th pirate we caught, we do have the laws on the books to prosecute and send him to prison for life. Even the French Military is doing the same thing, every Pirate they capture, they will prosecute and send them to the French prison system. Also, if you look at the French Navy and look at the kind of frigates they are using to chase down pirates, we should be using our frigates or LCS to chase down Pirates as well. The French Navy is using the La Fayette class frigate,Formidable class frigate and the Floréal class frigate to go after the Pirates. I think the US Coast Guard should look at buying some of the Floréal class frigate,Formidable class frigate or the La Fayette class frigate to replace their 210's and 270's.

I think we need to do something other than just patrolling the area. We need to put some teeth into the Somalia Issue. I think we need to invade Somalia and hunt down the Pirates and their Pirate bases. We need to finish the job we left behind in the 90's. We need to rebuild Somalia so it doesn't become another safe haven for the Taliban. I would get Kenya and Ethiopia involve and get them to help out in fixing the Somalia Issue and even let them take the lead. We would help them by putting some teeth and some heavy firepower for them.

We are going to have to go back into Somalia anyway, if this piracy keeps up. We need to get in their and hunt down the pirates where they live and root them out. We need to take out their ships and hunt down the pirates themselves. We also need to finish the job we left behind in Somalia and maybe start Nation building in Somalia because if not, the Taliban can walk right in and make Somalia their new home. The problem is that Somalia is ripe for the Taliban and if we don't go in their, the Taliban may and guess who else would make it their home. So this is why we may have no other choice than to invade Somalia to stop the pirates, hunt them down and even rebuild Somalia, the same way we are rebuilding Iraq and Afghanistan.
