It's all about what YOU make it to be. Haven't we learned anything about other people's interpretations? - Assuming that the majority of Atheists that come from a Christian background, have all read the bible at one time or another and have all believed that the Bible is interpreted differently by different individuals. I believe Christmas can be interpreted in more ways than one also. For some, It is purely Jesus's birthday. For other's, it's Cookies & Santa. If someone chooses not to celebrate Christmas, that is their decision. I see nothing wrong with celebrating or not celebrating. I just don't feel right depriving my son of something our entire family celebrates, regardless of the reasoning behind their celebrating. I grew up getting gifts, as will my son. I see the fun in the holiday, and I join in. I enjoy seeing my family and friends, and giving my son gifts. Just the idea of watching his face Christmas Morning is enough enjoyment for me to continue celebrating it. The concept of waking up to a house, full of gifts as a child is a great idea. I guess, to summarize, I like the "surprise" aspect of it.. sort of. Besides, not a lot of Irish people celebrate St. Patty's day. Oh the hell well. And, picking and choosing daycares are one of those things, that sometimes your mother's instinct persuades your decision on what Daycare you think has your child's best interest at heart. This story disgusts me. As a mother, as a caretaker for children myself, and as an ex-Christian. Now, I would never send my son to a Christian daycare, or any daycare that sets it's morals, and ways of life by a specific religion. (As I plan to raise my son to be open minded, and choose what he believes in without pushing my own disbelief onto him.) However, I will say that I have trusted Christians in my past based off of their kindness and generosity. (Although not all are like that) but I can see how easier it would be for someone to trust a devoted Christian to care of their child, over the daycare down the street. And to even fathom things like this happening, (as I live in Columbus, Ohio) literally not too far from my place of residence, is disgusting. Thanks for this post. Very eye-opening.
