Bids for the service center aren't due until July 20, so there isn't a low bid yet.

GazetteOnline.com : Linn County cuts budget, raises taxes

Not sure what is meant by "Maybe if we all worked together, we would've had a jail built by this summer." The county already has a jail that is in operation. A new jail is not being built.

GazetteOnline.com : Up to 3 percent pay increase approved for Linn County managers

I wish people were required to be informed before they could post comments on these blogs. Here are the facts: 1. Linn County management and non-bargaining unit employees did not get raises last year - their pay was frozen. 2. The 3% being discussed now is for these same employees, NOT the Board of Supervisors or any other elected official in Linn County. 3. County government is not a state department.

GazetteOnline.com : Linn Open Houses: Apples to apples, or apples to peaches?

Agreed, I-JOBS money is not guaranteed. But this project is at the top of the deferred list if money does become available. It was the second highest scoring project in the state, so while the money is not a sure thing, it is still a possibility.

I suspect they support it because there is almost $9 million on the table from I-JOBS that will pay for the improvements. That's $9 million that won't come out of your pocket.

If Joel Miller was really interested in apples to apples he would understand that a count of parking spaces at the AOB would have to include the employee lot because the 500 spaces he refers to at Steve & Barry's includes spaces where Linn County employees park.

GazetteOnline.com : Linn County Supervisors: No study on Econofoods

Urbanator is right. What's the attraction to big box stores? The developer for the Econofoods building says it will cost at least $12 million for the county to buy and renovate that building and the Gazette recently reported that Steve & barry's will cost around $19 million for the county to buy and renovate. I wouldn't call either of those affordable.

Re-read the article - the Supervisors' application to I-JOBS was to renovate the AOB. This is, in your own words, "moving into a renovated building of some sort."
