Food for thought. If they can time you and issue tickets then how soon will it be before they use the DOT cameras on all the interstates.

How would you like to be a kid and your parents say "Guess what we are doing this summer for vacation? We are going to see the Sinclair smokestack in Cedar Rapids." I pray to the Lord that this never happens to anyone. Quit wasting money on inspections and studies and take the eye sore down. Even if it is Federal money it still comes from the taxes so find a better use for it.

GazetteOnline.com : Iowa City rejects another liquor license application

This is the typical mentality of it is never my fault. It is the bar owner's fault that I broke the law. The part that stands out is "no 808 employee has ever been cited for serving alcohol to someone younger than 21" so how can it possibly be the responsibility of the bar and how can you deny them the right to do business. I hope everyone one of these bars fights this at the liquor board. Then I hope they turn around and file a claim against the city. This is why your VOTE counts. Get these people out of there.

GazetteOnline.com : Higher pay for disabled employees could put them out of work

You miss the point. If Goodwill is required to pay minimum wage, what company is going to outsource the job to them? For example if a non-disabled worker packages 60 items a hour and a goodwill worker gets 20 completed a hour, why would the company outsource the work to goodwill and pay 3 times the cost of hiring someone themselves? Like Tom52403 said "if they enjoy it and it gives them purpose to their lives it's better than having them sit around and watch TV all day." for most of the workers at options/ goodwill/ etc it is not about getting paid it is just as much as the social environment and getting to accomplishment something.

GazetteOnline.com : Red-light cameras won’t be a secret

My problem with the cameras is you have the right to confront your accuser in a court of law. How do you cross examine a device. One of the problems they run into where these are in place is people making a Legal right hand turn after stopping. Next will be the speed cameras in the work zone which the state is attempting to pass now. When your speedometer can be off as much as 11 mph from the factory or because of tires, tire pressure etc how can you investigate or defend a device when you may have thought you were doing nothing wrong. This is all about government making money and slowing chipping away at our rights.

GazetteOnline.com : City shuts down Wellington Heights liquor store

I guess folks will have to walk across the street to the Hy-Vee at 1556 First Avenue NE. If this isn't the stupidest thing you can think of. Close a small business because he is to close to the church, yet a big food store can sell the same item across the street.

GazetteOnline.com : Sinclair, Mediacom agree to eight-day extension

I am all for Sinclair getting paid for the work they do, the programs don't rebroadcast themselves. But I think the thing that sticks out for me is Mediacom offered a 3 month extension at the same rate and Sinclair wanted more. It doesn't matter to me much since you can watch most CBS programming in HD from CBS's website. I think Sinclair needs to get off their high horse thinking they have better programing and think about how it will impact their viewers. If I was an advertiser I would think twice about advertising on Sinclair if they have 1/3 the viewer base of their competitors.

What should we believe some computer model or the actual data from a scientist. http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-7715-Portland-... . Who cares that we just had the coolest July. That we were 20 degrees below normal in Oct and had snow the first weekend. If the temp was above normal that is all we would hear about. What bugs me is who are they to say that the temp in the 70's, 80's or 90's was the ideal temperature for the survival of mankind or even polar bears? If there is less ice doesn't that mean they have more hunting ground? We have such a small impact on the earth it laughable.
