HGTV Design Star : Dan is Your Favorite Designer!

I agree- HGTV made a choice based on the on-screen personality of Antonio- they clearly feel he will appeal to some viewers.

HGTV Design Star : Chat Live With Antonio

I believe you hit the nail on the head- the choice of Antonio by HGTV was clearly about personality. He's the equivalent of Food Network's Guy Fieri- a brash personality type that will appeal to certain viewers. When I tune in to a program that is purportedly about design, however, I want some content- I want to learn something, not merely be entertained by an engaging personality. Unfortunately, I see the "personality driven" show to be the growing trend on HGTV, Food Network and others. For the record, I believe I've seen about the full range that Antonio has to offer, so I won't be following his show. (Please note- I made no personal attack of Antonio, I've got nothing against him, I'm just not interested in his show).
