The problem with "The Lorax" and others like it is that they take the "tragedy of the commons" and paint it as an inherent flaw of industry and business, as if capitalism destroys the world. Conservatives in general are in favor of conservation, but balanced with a growing economy and the needs of people. Too often it seems like the ecology movement is anti-humanity and anti-civilization. So do we over-react? sometimes, but when you feel kicked enough times you start to get sensitive.

I'm curious about who wrote these scripts. Did Lucas write them? Then they're probably junk. If it's others, and Lucas and McCallum are limited to Exec Producing credits, then there might be hope for a decent show. I'm not too worried about McCallum's favoring the trendy issue of the moment. A few years ago he might have been trying to lump it in with the anti-WTO protesters, or the green movement. If these scripts have really been in the vault for a while, and they allowed to revised by the show runner and his team, then it might be ok.
