She probably didn't read the policy when she signed it, and now she takes exception with it. If she had read it she would have know they give exemptions to religious symbols when requested.

(don't take this as an endorsment for carnahan) but why not Carnahan? She is yet to be a career politician (well at least actually holding a political office), she would be a new face in politics. again not an endorsement for Carnahan , just a question following along the discussion so far.

No question that we have many people well qualified. The question is would those well qualified people be willing to serve?

Why not? Do we really want new people every few years? Generally only career politicians want to serve. Would a plumber be willing to go sit in DC for 4 years? Honest question for you opinion on your statement.

maybe I misread what QAZ was saying. I read that he thought they should be "appointed" by the state legislature. I view appointed and elected as different things. Until the 17th amendment, each state had their own method of placing senators and most stes did it by state legislature election. The semantics of the constitution are very important. There are provisions for the Governor of a state to "appoint" a senator. Oregon (1907) and Nebraska actually Elected Senators by popular vote before the 17th amendment. By 1912 Twenty Nine states did election by populist vote. I think you are confusing what the Constitution and bill of rights says and what was already being done by states. Before the 17th amendment states were allowed to place senators in any manner they saw fit, the 17th finally stipulated an exact method. But the word "Appointment" was what my original post was about. I wasn't being sarcastic or rude but a serious inquiry of where the person had gotten "appointment" by state legislatures.

I wonder if people forget that we elect these people and it is our own ignorance that allows them to come to power and stay there. If people really thought that these people were unsuited for office they wouldn't vote for them. The lesser of two evils argument is lame, if you think someone else is better suited, write them in. Someone might be suprised to be elected this way, but very few would probably refuse to serve. Maybe if "We the people" got over all the flashy ads and town hall speeches and focused on what these people were saying we as a people would elect better leaders.

As a history buff I love reading trivia on the american constitution and politics. I have never heard of the Founding fathers (framers of the constitution) intending that state legislatures should appoint Senators. Where did you read or hear about this idea? I would be very interested in reading it. I am wondering if you are read something that took Edmund Randolf's idea and presented it as something more than simply one individuals suggestion? Randolf's only real supporter in what was called "the virginia plan" was James Madison. Randolf wanted us to have a system more in lines with the British. Now there was also a similar setup in the Articles of Confederation which was what we used beginning the nation and during the Revolutionary war. But the articles of Confederation were simply considered a stop gap measure until we had our independence and could formally draft a constitution befitting our new nation. these Senators were appointed at this time simply because Elections were not an easy option at this point in our nations history. But again if you read this someplace I would love to read it.

My point exactly, They feel like it is the banks fault, and the tellers fault in particular, because they didn't know or didn't care that they didn't have enough money in the bank. I love all the tellers at my bank and I hope you are one of them contray to what trkdjj thinks. Tellers are people too, and they having feelings and it is just a job. I am sure whatever insignificant job trkdjj has that they don't want to deal with a customers problem that was the customers fault, but they do because it is their job.

I have never laid my bike down! I am overly cautious on a bike or in a car. I use the 2 second rule (you are probably saying huh, what is that). I never asked for pity and it isn't a little hobby. The only little hobby I have seen exhibited here is your use of your brain, that must just be a part time hobby for you.

KSPR News : MO Republicans push welfare drug testing bills | KSPR - News, Weather, Sports Springfield, MO | Loca

There are going to be pros and cons to any welfare program. Drug testing is a positive step. I think a "trained" person to spot drug users would cost more to hire and train than a simple test. A snip of hair a hundred bucks we have an answer. If they test positive give them an option to take a rehab program, they drop out no more benefits. They refuse to test no benefits. If there are children in a home where the parents would become inelligible because of drugs the children are likely better removed and placed in a better situation. There is no great new answer, no quick fix, but the current system has proven itself broken over and over. It is time we make changes, all we can do is try and see what happens, we might all be suprised.

Hobby? I ride my motorcycle because I love it yes, but also because I get 85 MPG. Motorcycles are enviromentally friendly, makes for less traffic conjestion, and easier to park. If you don't want to "look out" for motorcycles then you probably aren't looking out for other cars or pedestrians either. You screen name probably should be "bad car driver'

I say that Missurians demand a change in school systems pay scales. That a Principal can only make 10% above the highest paid teacher in his/her school. That a Superintendent can only make 10% more than the highest paid Principal in his/her district. I think such a system would create better wages for teachers and give Missourian better teachers in the long run.
