Yeah my pastor will probably bring it up at the beginning of the sermon. Though, in the typical fashion, it will be a week or two late to be a current cultural reference. Oh, we all get a kick out of it.

Yes this does happen to me and my congregation every now and then. When it happens it seems like our worship leader figures that, at the moment, we don't need his worship leadership and he (and sometimes she) lets us worship entirely on our own zeal for a few minutes - with the help of Powerpoint. The worship leader truly abandons me when he, or most often 'she' in this case, sings at an octave I couldn't reach with an extension ladder. Speaking of "go to" moves; apparently mine is called "pound your fist on the table". I am revising my move index.

Reminding ourselves, and each other, of such grim notions can be a way to cheaply reinforce optimism; "It could be worse." It could just be pessimism, or it could be a predictable reaction from someone who has suffering fresh in hand. My reaction to prosperity gospel preaching is to remember that being rich in spirit is a greater blessing and that during the hardships, which are sure to come, God, in His passion, endures it with us.

I very much agree; it's the best way to encourage your group-mates to make the most of your time together. If God has blessed you with the ability to be forward (and honest) with people there is no point in waiting to share your gift.

I have never seen Blindside play, I live in Alberta and while most artists do come out here they do not come out often. I did see my favorite, Haste the Day, and it was wild. Underoath and Norma Jean came last summer and there was some intense audience participation there too.
