Longmont Times-Call : Editorial: Commuter rail price is crazy; not keeping promises is ridiculous - Longmont Times-Call

Boulder county voters got greedy and wanted two modes of transit to Denver, both a train and BRT. Even the local papers have forgotten that both were part of the original 2004 vote. If BRT was done right (it isn't), there would be no need for a train. If the train was built, there would be no need for BRT. By getting greedy and demanding two modes on one route, you have ended up with neither.

Daily Camera.com: : Boulder to unveil $1.1M Community Ditch Trail Underpass on Friday - Boulder Daily Camera

That site was the perfectly set up for a bike/pedestrian bridge over the highway. It would have cost a small fraction of the cost of a tunnel and would have provided a better user experience. The traffic delays would have been minimal as it could have been fabricated off site and installed in hours. I would like to hear why a tunnel was chosen over a bridge.

Daily Camera.com: : Remains of Lafayette hiker missing since 2012 believed to have been found in Grand County - Boulder

Glad her family finally has closure. She climbed 11,800 pass, descended over 2 miles and 1400 feet. The trail is basically east/west, the position of the setting sun would have told her she was headed the wrong direction. In July most night time temperatures would be survivable, water would not be any issue and she had food in her pack. Have to consider the possibility that she was ready to check out and just walked until she found a beautiful secluded spot. RIP and peace to her family and friends.

Daily Camera.com: : CDOT director says U.S. 36 contract with Plenary will close within two weeks - Boulder Daily Camera

Does anyone know what gas will costs in 50 years? Does anyone know what the population of the Boulder / Denver corridor will be in 50 years? Do we really want to give our main transportation corridor to the "banksters" so they can manage it for their profit? Seems that gas and population will both double and WE THE PEOPLE should be able to make future decisions on what our transportation options will be.

Good point. And I will add that they will get reimbursed (plus 13% profit) for creating obstructions (doing maintanance) that increases their cashflow. It is a win/win for them and a lose/lose for us.

Daily Camera.com: : CDOT beaten up in Round 2 of U.S. 36 public meetings - Boulder Daily Camera

Couple of examples: If there is an accident that blocks the two free lanes the logical solution, as PUBLIC infrastructure, would be to open all three lanes to all traffic until traffic clears. But for a private corporation, managed for maximum profit, the logical solution is to raise the toll rate to maximum allowed to maximize cashflow. If there is another war in the Middle east and gas doubles to $7 or $8 per gallon, we will see a lot of people choosing RTD/BRT. A BRT system managed as PUBLIC infrastructure could easily add capacity to the BRT lane which would move more people but have less capacity available for LexusLaners. But if it is managed for cashflow, that would not be the logical or legal solution. Kinda defeats one strong point of BRT, that capacity can expand.

Public infrastructure should be managed for the most benefit for the most people at the best price. Instead US 36 will be managed for the most profit for a few foreign corporations.

Could people PLEASE get their facts straight! There was no bait and switch, the BRT was part of the original vote. There NEVER was proposed light rail from Denver to Boulder. It was commuter rail on EXISTING rails that take a serpentine 30 mile route to cover the 20 mile distance. The rail, if ever built, would never compete time wise with a well built BRT. The RTD voters from Boulder County could not decide on a mode so TWO modes were requested, Commuter Rail and BRT. No other corridor asked for two modes. BRT AND commuter rail never made any sense serving the same corridor. Best quote on the subject, "WOW- I never thought I'd witness the packaging of over-population and congestion into a revenue generating financial product, but the financial sector (and our local government) has stooped to a new low."

Daily Camera.com: : Harsh words for CDOT at public meeting on 50-year U.S. 36 contract - Boulder Daily Camera

We already paid for the BRT improvements to US 36 thru the FastTracks tax passed by voters in 2004. It authorized a "sales tax" to pay for RTD improvements to US 36. We have been paying this tax since 2005., The original US 36 was financed by the CDOT and paid off EARLY by users thru toll payments. Once it was paid off, the tolls were removed. This is how government transportation should work. Has Gov. Hickenloper made any statement on this, or is he off crying in his beer that his 50 year retirement deal is going down the drain?

I'm confused by this. Our vote for FastTracks in 2004 was supposed to fund the BRT improvements to US 36 and now we are hearing a private company is funding in exchange for tolls. WTF? And private toll companies always require "non-compete" clauses to protect cash flow, have all the local communities along US 36 agreed to this?

I'm concerned about them destroying the businesses legal inventory. If a liquor store is busted for selling to minors, the police do not break down the door and destroy the inventory. If these business owners are truly guilty, forfeiting the inventory would make sense, but what happened to innocent until proven guilty? Could the Swat Team tactics, involvement of the IRS in the raids and the destroying of a million dollars worth of legal inventory be meant to discourage legal investment in a legal business?

The Roaring Fork Transit is not true BRT, but BRT "Lite" at best. With BRT the passengers pay fares BEFORE the bus arrives, not in the bus as shown in first picture. Speeds up loading by 40%. RTD put real time data for next train for the new West Route. But they forgot to also have a clock showing the current time.
