I couldn't agree more, Gryphon. My brother died of a heroin o.d. on July 3, 2000. The person that I miss every day was gone long before he died. Its too bad that he chose to do that crap and miss out on getting to know his nieces and nephew.

The chicken pox vaccine dramatically reduces your chances of getting chicken pox, which is exactly the same virus as shingles. The shingles vaccine is the same booster shot that children get for the chicken pox series - one in the same!

Since chicken pox and shingles are caused by exactly the same virus and having chicken pox as a child increases the risks of getting shingles as an older adult, I say keep the little typhoid marys and johnnys in isolation. I'll take the chances that the vaccine is only 50% effective if it means I have a good chance of NOT getting blisters all over my body.

So when these kids are seniors and suffering from shingles, they will know who to thank!
