Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : 4/17/09: Did The Tea Parties Cheapen History?

I do watch glenn and agree he's impartial when it comes to shedding the light on misdeeds and corruption. I am a fan. My comment is more directed to names like Newt Gingrich and republican stratagists who came out during the tea parties to embrace the movement. My point was that the GOP has lost my confidence on issues such as shrinking government and reducing taxes.

I like dictionary.com's definition it is clear and specific. This definition still excludes waterboarding untill it can be proved that the practice causes excruciating pain. As I understand it, waterboarding cause extreme fear, if that can be equated to mental pain then it is torture. My opinion on this matter is that sometimes the ends justify the means. If valuable information was obtained during an interogation and extreme physical pain was not inflicted then the practice is legal. I do not believe that mental anguish is torture. Sleep deprivation, loud music, and barking dogs are not torture methods. Waterboarding presents us with an interesting argument, does the fear of drowning equate to the infliction of excruciating pain?

Using the first webster's definition would condemn any police officer that has handcuffed a prisioner too tight. That causes pain to the wrists and is thereby torture. I believe that this definition is too vague, pain without intention should not be considered torture, in my opinion. Take webster's second definition, the infliction of intense pain (as from burning, crushing, or wounding) to punish, coerce, or afford sadistic pleasure. Very specific, however this would eliminate waterboarding as torture, because there was no burning, crushing, or wounding involved.

What is torture? Webster's dictionary defines torture as : 1 a: anguish of body or mind : agony b: something that causes agony or pain. 2: the infliction of intense pain (as from burning, crushing, or wounding) to punish, coerce, or afford sadistic pleasure. Dictionary.com lists their definition as: 1. the act of inflicting excruciating pain, as punishment or revenge, as a means of getting a confession or information, or for sheer cruelty.

Freeflight, if we had to settle for just two parties since the beggining of this nation the political makeup of the country would be whig and federalist. New parties are supposed to emerge. I'm tired of wearing the red shirt and railing against the blue dog dems. Especially when are support is often thrown back in our faces and the Republicans end up spending just as much of our money if not more. It is time for some real change, a new political party based on values, principals, morals, and ethics.

Just as it is important to stand up to the attacks from the left, we must be careful not to allow the right to adopt our movement either. No matter where you stand politically we have started something that has legs. It is centered around values and pricipals. We CAN NOT allow the Republican party to claim that they are the representation of the 9-12 project or the tea party movement. They are just as musch to blame for the roll back of freedoms and the over taxation that has taken place over the last 100 years. The Democrats are going to attack us for being whiny about the outcome of the election. We need to hammer home the point that we have lost our representation long ago. Niether side represents the values and principals of mainstream america. We need to break the back of the two party stranglehold on our nation and bring the voters more choices this election day.

OK, that's it. I am sick and tired of hearing the term exit strategy. No successful military campaign was ever waged with the preconcieved notion of getting out. WWII included, that is why we still have personel stationed in Germany, Japan, and Italy. The term didn't even surface untill years into the conflict. Don't act like you were agains't the war from the beginning because of the absence of an exit strategy.

Dear Centerleft, I am going to share a personal story. This past year I lost my job at a HVAC company. As a result of that I was not able to keep up my mortgage payments and had to move back in with family. I filed this years taxes and found out that I owe $3102. If you think that this system is fair, I guess I'm the crazy one. I believe the current tax code is oppressive to all. I don't care how much this president or that president cut or raise taxes. It is no longer about politics these are real people's lives and it is their hard earned money that is being taken in the name of social progress, no matter which party is in charge.

I haven't heard of them being refferd to as FOX NEWS TEA PARTIES. Reguardless of which network covers what, most people can agree that the current tax code is at the very least way too complicated. Three of the current presidents' cabinet appointments were caught not paying their taxes. These tea parties will give voice to those who want a simpler, less repressive tax code. While I will agree that Fox News leans right, you can't tell me that the other news networks such as MSNBC don't have their bias.

funny indeed, just a side note, here in new jersey there is a law banning window tint on the front windows of a vehicle. Yet, undercover police vehicles are allowed to have there windows completely tinted. This is just a small example of governmental hipocracy.

The government needs to collect revenue to be able to govern that is a given. I think every american understands that. I also believe that MOST americans want stable functional government that is truly represenative of its people. How did we ever allow pollitical parties to gain so much power and influence. The Eagle that used to represent this nation has become a bloated dragon, full of backroom deals and unapologetic wasteful spending. We have just now started to awaken to this unjust system. We must stand up loudly and in great numbers, so the powers that be will have no choice but to listen to the will of the people.

The state of taxation in this country has become oppressive. Even more an individual with an entreprenurial spirit is stifiled with over regulation. In order to start a new business in this country you have to have multiple permits. In order to improve you house with another room, you have to have permits and inspections, and don't forget a new tax assesment when the project is completed. How did we let our nation reach into our pockets with both fists like this.I know people whose property taxes are $9000 a year, that is $750 a month. What kind of justification is there for that kind of tax? That is where it has come to in NJ. I think the only fair way to go about taxes is a flat percentage for income and a SQ YD flat rate on property.

I have to give credit where credit is due. The President did make the correct decision in the end to use military action to save the life of an American citizen. Hopefully the commander in chief will take a lesson from this mess and allow our military to intervine alot sooner in the future.
