This is what happens when you have bureaucrats for commanders. Regardless of what POTUS, the State Dept, or DoD says, the bitch captain of the naval vessel nearest should go ahead and rescue Capt Phillips. I have to believe that it wouldn't be that hard. But I guess his career is more important than the life of a fellow American.

However, I happen to have a BBS in Econ, and I just can't see how what he is doing now could possibly lead us into such an age.

Don't worry, we're tracking. If you look at the "We Surround Them" mosaic, you will notice a number of servicemembers in uniform (for example, a dashing Marine officer in the center of the external curlicue of the first "P" in "People"--I'm just sayin'). There are many more who shy away from anything overtly political due to a misunderstanding about the restrictions for those in the military. Ultimately, it comes down to this: As an officer of Marines, I took a solemn oath before God that I will "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God." Of course, this is the same oath that members of Congress take and they obviously don't take it very seriously. Then again, they don't carry guns to work. There is that 10% who will always follow anything. There may well one day be a fight, but the preponderance (of Marines anyway) will be on the side of the People. By the way, the upside down flag is a symbol of distress. Quite apropos to this time in our country...

Contrary to what most believe, America is not a democracy, but a representative republic. That means that, strictly speaking, an elected representative need not vote in the interest of his constituency. Elected reps do not take an oath to represent their constituencies, rather they take oaths to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. Ultimately, their obligation lies in the protection of the Constitution, not the wishes of their constituencies. Short answer, "No". Nor should we.

They undid this as soon as people found out about it. But that one thing wouldn't have that big of an impact on most gun owners. Unless you are unfortunate enough to own such worthless weapons as would fire .223 caliber or 9 mm rounds. I suppose some who reload .308 rounds might be hurting. Other than that, not much.

I'm kind of thinking that most of us don't expect nursing home residents and small children to attend these things. Or liberals. Or people who had prior commitments that might have been a priority. So your percentage estimate might be off a bit compared to something that is realistic. However, even if we stipulate that your percentage is correct, the numbers indicated are well above the numbers who were ever hangin' wit Cindy Sheehan. And I'd lay down a paycheck that you once found her relevant.
