I've seen it mostly as a fan theory, but Steven also mentions it in "monster reunion" when he is interpreting Centi's drawings: "You heard something. From the sky, a sound. A song? And then..."
So, dubiously true, but actually mentioned in canon even if it is a throwaway line.
