It used to be that few people could afford the books that libraries held, but now that information is widely available. These computers give us access to more information than even the Library of Congress holds. My own research has become much quicker thanks to the digitized collections of primary sources that are available from any internet-connected computer or smart phone. Closing the library for a week isn't going to bring our democracy to its knees. It might mean that people will have to wait a little longer before getting the copy of the latest Clive Cussler book.
