I was constantly refreshing for updates on Jo Cox yesterday. I'm going to be at my old college this weekend (which she attended ) for an event that was supposed to be about celebrating finally letting women in 30 years ago (because we were historically even more shit than the rest of Cambridge ) and I don't know what it will feel like.
Uuugh anyone else feeling depressed over the current Captain America fuckery that is going on in comics? I don't know how much more I have to say about it but it is seriously aggravating. Just trying to keep focus on the titles and creators that are good and can be relied upon not to pull this shut.
Ooh I like giving London recs. Anything you are looking for specifically? I always tell people to give the Globe a shot because the standing tickets are £5 and it has a great atmosphere. The V&A cafe is beautiful if kinda expensive (but the museum itself is free ) and I love the plaster cast room and the ceramics gallery.
Also there is a London toasties group on Facebook if you want more info.
Eggs, pasta, bacon, cheese and bread. With those I can make my standard approximate carbonara and as much breakfast as I want. With optional throwing in of any assorted veg I have lying around (onions, spinach, mushrooms, leeks and parsley all work )
I don't know very much (visited my sister while she was there doing a postdoc at UCSF) but I mostly remember the amazing food.... So much brunch. Also, Muir Woods is beautiful and most of the museums have free or late entry on certain days. Good luck!
My favourite at the moment is Jay and Miles X-plain the X-men which is truly hilarious even if you have only the vaguest understanding of the comics. Did you know that the first time Wolverine was addressed as Logan it was by a bunch of leprechauns? I mean it will also make you angry about how the films have consistently fucked over the female characters but eh.
Espionage cosmetics are also having a sale atm if you are looking for nail art
So for me when I'm 'picturing' something from a book, or audio, or anything without an explicit visual element it isn't really the same as recalling someone I know or scenes from a film or something. It's more like when you remember a conversation and the topics you talked about and the gist of peoples opinions and emotions but not the exact words. As opposed to projecting a photo on a screen inside my head which is the best way I can think to describe thinking of a face I know.
I saw it via a friend of mine who has this - it's so interesting watching different types of people try to understand each other in the comments. For example my friend can imagine sounds but not images - so he can play songs in his head or imagine voices but images - nope. Also his sister has it as well which by the standards of facebook means that there is almost certainly some kind of genetic component.
Erm off topic but is anyone else having issues with IntenseDebate? It is working fine on my phone (chrome) but on my laptop (also chrome) I keep getting either errors or the page refreshing without posting. The toast is whitelisted for all my blockers so i dont think thats it....
