HGTV Design Star : Who Should Go Home Next?

While I like seeing the judges walk through the designs, I would rather they do it without the DS contestants looking on (wistfully...). Save that for the end - and bring ALL of them to the judging. Bring back a mediator between the DSCs and judges. And for crying out loud....give me back MY vote for Design Star. This online show vote is a cop out.

PS: In answer to your question - the jury is still out on who I think would make for good TV viewing. Tom has panache...Nina has guts....Dan has good people skills....and Clive, well Clive just had that humor that bridged the gap between the contestants and the judging.

HGTV Design Star : Episode 3 Roundup

Design Star has never been "all about the design". Just a show with design teasers, edited marketing dramarama to get ppl to explode on the blogs. And the true nature of the blogs is so everyone gets a voice..even the HATE mongerers who have nothing better to say than "I hate......." Thats okay, heck I am not real happy about the new format this Season...and I said so, I HATED when they took my vote away for the next Design Star and I said so, but as you say...it is just a mindless TV show. Sometimes along the way there are a couple of designs you can get on board with, regardless of how crazy we might think the actual "challenge" is. That's my favorite part - looking at the results...being able to voice my opinion on what I liked or didn't like. Sometimes I think the judges are spot on and sometimes I think they are grasping and I just have to shake my head - and forget about it. And find something better to do - like get off my butt and go paint that bedroom downstairs! Just kidding.....

HGTV Design Star : Judge's Recap - Episode 1: Alex & Casey

Agreed Serge, I thought Casey had a strong design going. Minor irritations, I would have loved to have seen more layered bedding, but since Alex was looking for tranquil meditation/Fiji (ism), not enough to call her on it. Looking forward to see what else she has to offer us.

Agreed...using the judges in mediator\\hosting positions is uncomfortable to watch. Leave them to the judging, and quit trying to be so cute. And perhaps I missed something, but it feels like Design Star has been pushed into an almost mediocre position - like it "snuck in". Did I miss an episode...where they all arrive and unpack, and settle in? Why the late time frame? Bring back the bull-horn! Bring back the "Your Show Has Been Cancelled"! BRING BACK MY RIGHT TO VOTE THE DESIGN STAR!

HGTV Design Star : Judge's Recap - Episode 1: Tera & Trent

Tera's design, though pretty, looked SAFE to me. Very formulated. Here is where I would ditch the round woven trays on the wall and push some of that rich chocolate on the wall - maybe mimic the pattern in the bedding. The wall hangings above the bed, good idea...just not enough! Mulitply that by say, 9 of those above the bed - and that is where you get WOW! Trent had a good thing going, then lost me with the hanging fabric. Candice was spot on in her assessment here.

Amen to that! That is what made the first seasons GREAT! AMERICA CHOSE THE DESIGN STAR! Sorry for the "yelling", but man...it was such a bum rap for us to lose the right to chose our Design Star. I don't care for all the air time spent on the judges either...that time would be better spent viewing the contestants, getting to KNOW THEM. Okay, my venting is complete - thank you.

It's not ALIVE without CLIVE! Okay, now the designs. Seriously boring - and they even had assistance? Nina - top designer? For REAL? C'mon, her room was as cluttered as Scott's was in Season 2, and the judges BOOed him. No big winners here - but have to give Tom Kudos for his saturated bold color and fabrics (regardless of the judges imput), and to Casey, for her great contrast in lights and darks and her overall design concept.

HGTV Design Star : Sorry Gang, The Polls Are Closed

HGTV...a small word if I could, Please reconsider your current format for next year. I was SO disappointed to find out I would not have a voice for 2009's Design Star. It took a lot of the fun out for me. I did vote the first 2-3 weeks for the online show - but sadly that lost any appeal for me after that. Honestly, your finale lost it's zest....last year the week between the last challenge and the revealing of America's Design Star was THE TOPIC at work. ("Who did you vote for..what did you think of that challenge?") The 2009 finale was pretty lame. We got from challenge to the judging to crowning a new host to what....? Oh yes, a "special" next week. WIll you have the rest of the 2009 cast members on board for this episode? It really was a nice way to "say good-bye" to the ones you might have been hopeful for, and clear the air from the supposed drama stacked along the way. Whatever - you missed the mark in 2009 Season 4.

Hubby: “So, Design Star Finals tonight? Who do you think will win?” Me: “Well, if it was based on design I would say Dan…but I think HGTV is looking for a gimmick this year, probably Antonio.” Hubby: “Who would you choose?” Me: “I would have to say Dan – he has had the stronger designs. Remember those boat mobiles? Don’t you think we could replicate that somehow in our sunroom?” Hubby: (groan)…another project. Clive: “And your next Design Star is……..ANTONIO!” Hubby: “Can we go to bed now?” Me: “Yep”

A very nice blog AllyK..... I also feel the panel of judges this year have made good thorough critiques, and no..I haven't always agreed with their elimination choices but I daresay that there is more that goes on in their discussions and elimination than what I see in the edited version on TV. But still not pleased to loose my vote for Design Star. Please reconsider this for next year.

It's definitely been "different" this Season, and the biggest difference? Heck, we don't even get to vote for our Design Star - I know I sound like a broken record here - but HATE that about this year. I really don't care who wins their own online show...that's not why I wait all year for the next season of Design Star. PS: BTW I thought the last episode did show some nice designer touches, but look out Antonio! If you go into the finals and install TWO TVs in your NEXT challenge, you may well be labeled a one trick pony!

HGTV Design Star : Challenge 8: Celebrity Homes

Well, call my bluff HGTV – you broke the mold this year! It’s truly a “may the best man win” season. I was pleasantly surprised in all three rooms this week – thought they all had a couple of design worthy features and thought all three challengers did a good job uniquely presenting their rooms…regardless of what my personal “opinions” of their character may be. And yet…. Lonni – loved the feel of her room, very cozy, very me! But again, I cancelled you back in the white room challenge. I think you would find a great niche on FLN (along with some other top-notch designers). Dan – great unexpected ideas, loved your boat mobile. However, did find the room a little too “heavy” in details – no room for my eye to rest. Antonio – again, unexpected details – loved your map, and anybody who incorporates clocks in their room – okay with me. BUT, you hid that great fireplace and I can’t get over that ugly green place mat thingy on the floor.

HGTV Design Star : David's Vlog: Where's the Design?

Sorry hollybea..... Much as I admire the judges, I liked it better when America chose the next Design Star. It should be up to the judges to get us to the final BEST designers, then put it in the hands of America. I hate not having a voice for Design Star! Can you imagine American Idol following this format? BTW...haven't watched Myles of Style since its first few episodes, Todd was FUN but he really blew it in the final that year. Remember Will and his first design with Sparkle Josh - eye catching!
