I finally saw this film. I personally thought the movie was terrible. And I live in an extremely blue-state, work with leftists, understand (though disagree) with their worldview, and like Johnny Depp. But this movie had serious flaws:

1) No concluding act and the end-words did not really do anything.

2) The protagonist who the audience is supposed to root for is--as far as the audience knows--far more immoral and criminal than the 'bad guys'. It's one thing to have a 'bad' or 'conflicted' good guy, but its another to have the worse criminal be portrayed as somehow the hero.

3) I felt plenty of sympathy for the bad guy (not sure exactly what he did wrong other than some back room dealing), none for Depp's sleazy character.

4) Sucker punch: There is a 3 minute diatribe from one of the 'evil capitalist pigs' (and retired naval officer?) with tin-foil hat supposedly conservative talk. Point to make the audience think the evil boor is a typical conservative. Plus Depp's character clearly takes a swipe at Reagan, even though that would be 20 years too soon. All of this was unrelated to the plot of the film.

I love movies and generally don't hate on them but even I have watched an increasing number of stinkers over the last couple of years. This wasn't the worse, but it was near the bottom. I really wish I could get my two hours back (or just watch scenes of all the 'beauty' in the film).

The Holy Trinity of the Left:

Race, Class, Gender.

Everything is seen in through that divine light. Everything.

You're correct. It is weird. It look like a cheap production.

Some of it has to do with natural beauty. Some people have it, some don't. That's not a slam on those that don't. It's a compliment that Palin has it and Fey doesn't. But you would think Moore would look better for an HBO production.

While I agree with your sentiments, you have to decide about your audience. Whether we like it or not, the word 'religion' has a negative connotation in society and 'spiritual' has a positive. Estevez must know if he calls the movie 'religious' it will turn off a larger part of the audience than if he used 'spiritual'. Though it is impossible to know to what degree Estevez is personally invested in his own spirituality/religion.

I also agree with Warren about reclaiming the word 'spiritual'. While I am clearly a Christian, personally and publically, I have no fear of using the word spiritual if it helps me connect with my non-Christian audience. Spiritual is rooted in 'of the Spirit' meaning the Spirit of God (OT/HB & NT), and is certainly not of pagan origin. Like many words, it was taken from Christianity and made to mean something it doesn't.

I was involved in the 2004 campaign in a swing state, swing county. My unofficial job was to catch Democrats who did this. In that county alone, we found a little over 200 who did. This is probably small statistically, but the info was to be used for an injunction if the election was close. So, yes, this does happen all the time.

We pray for lots of people, none of whom deserve to be in God's heaven. More prayer for everyone is always a good thing.

It's not that Ayres talks about it, it's that he was involved in actual terrorist acts. And it is the actual criminal activity of OWS, ACORN and others--criminal as defined by current laws, not what we may or may not think should be criminal-- as a whole that makes this increasingly problematic for the honest citiizen.

Look at classical leftist logic on display: Some people are dumb, since I am smarter, I need to help them choose what they will be/do/become in life.

Since I can guarantee (and prove) that I am much smarter than you, LD, I am coming to your house tomorrow to help you run your life. Let's see how you like.

"Judaism doesn't believe life begins at the moment of conception"

This rings false to me. Alot depends on how you classify 'Judaism.' If you mean, Israel-disliking Jews by culture on living on the Upper West Side don't believe life begins at conception, you are probably correct. But how many Orthodox or Hasidic Jews affirm or are getting abortions?

Even if, for the sake of argument, Judaism doesn't believe life begins at conception does not mean Judaism is pro-abortion. This is a false argument based on a false premise.
