Malachi42: how come the pictures of such shootings often has the family provide one in which the victim is blinged out in a thug pose, complet with hand sign? Maybe it's the only picture that the victim posed for and/or is the one preferred by his family. And just maybe he was a gang member, as the gangs make and take most of the hits. Not likely to be Photoshopped, is it?

One segment of the article details how the coverage varied when ethnic Turkish families defended their shops after police failed to adequately defend Kingsland Road. The commentator's slant is that the reportage raised Turkish Kurds by name because they are Muslims and, only of necessity to delineate the other side, classed the rioters as "predominantly black." I disagree with this analysis. I believe the Turks are being backhanded for their vigilantism, because they are choosing to further victimize the already economically victimized poor blacks. (Note I can't use "Afro-Britishers" because in England white people are still called "whites" and black people "blacks.") Note the language of the reports. "Kingsland Road chaotic as Turkish men attack ... ." So, weren't the riots and looting already chaotic? Did the defenders create the chaos by fighting back? "Attack," not "defend"? Who is in the right here: "... Turkish men attack other, predominantly black, youths with sticks, metal barricades and bricks.’ Doesn't this make out the "black youths" as the victims of attacks by full-grown well-armed "men"? I rest my case. You be the judge.
