Big Hollywood : 'Pontypool' Review: An Innovative Take on the Undead Film Genre

Totally, Andrew! Plus, it's believable in that (1) it's his "shift" and he really can't abandon it, and (2) he's ultimately a news broadcaster and would feel naturally that this is his place to be.

See, I really liked that aspect! :) It felt more like what I might actually experience. I sure wouldn't go out and see what was going on, LOL!

Wow, I've actually seen this movie!! And I totally enjoyed it. You're right, the guy is completely believable as a talk radio guy. And I appreciate a zombie movie that isn't totally blood and guts... if that isn't a strange combination to desire, LOL!

Big Hollywood : Liberal Hollywood Shortchanges Actresses

I agree most strongly with your last point about the lack of strong female characters. I'm not saying that there isn't room for pure entertainment, but it would be great to see more role models for young women.

It would hardly surprise me, given that Hollywood glamorizes nothing but youth. "She's 20? Way over the hill!" Also, what happened to -- "It's the seriousness of the allegation that merits investigation!" Never mind if there's any truth to it, right??

Good point about Harry not being anything special. In fact, he starts off in the wizarding world far behind most of his compatriots. He wasn't raised surrounded by it and he doesn't have the support of his own family. In that sense, he's the classic kid from the wrong side of the tracks who makes good. Another good article, Andrew!

I'm a fan of the old-time Bond villians. They had plans. BIG plans. World domination, a superior race to live in space, etc. Like you said, they weren't evil just to be evil, they had goals and dreams. They were just sick and twisted goals and dreams, but it made them interesting.

Big Hollywood : What Constitutes a Conservative Film?

Bev, I've thought about whether GWTW is a conservative film. On the one hand, there is a strong theme of self-reliance and survival without any government assistance. In fact, Scarlett's entire support system and government is completely destroyed, and she take the bull by the horns to take care of her family. But, then she goes too far. GWTW then turns into a warning (?) against throwing away all societal mores and ties in the process of self-reliance. Rhett, too, shows that you can't be a scoundrel and still expect to be welcomed in society. It's an interesting balance that I think does ultimately show a conservative message - individual responsibility tempered by society's norms.

Interesting points, Andrew and welcome to BH. I've noticed how hard it is to get children's cartoons anymore that don't have some heavy-handed pro-environmental, anti-business messages, all while falling into the "family friendly!" category. Maybe family friendly because they're not full of cursing and nudity, but not so family-friendly if you're not into indoctrination with a liberal agenda. I agree with your 7 points.

Big Hollywood : Obama as Joker: Selective Outrage From 'LA Weekly'

A few months ago, you didn't see a single Prius without an O sticker. It was as though they came that way from the factory. Now, they're hard to find. I feel like taking this as a bumper sticker and slapping it on every Prius I see. And I also proudly display my "Don't Tread On Me" right next to my "Who is John Galt?" sticker.
